Title: Military Life, The Return and Crafty Dog??
Post by: Maxx on August 24, 2008, 04:43:02 PM
Hey All,
Long time no post. So I thought I would take a moment to throw up alittle post and say greetings. It's been a wild month so far.
I had just finish re-enlisting up back into the Military and have been up at Ft. Irwin getting thing's ready to head out to Ft. Benning to go to Close Quaters Combat School. I leave for Benning September 25th. Then from there I get attached to Ranger Batt that is over in Iraq right now already on a 4 month deployment and I will be joining them to finish off their 12 month deployment.

I also just finished finding out and heard that the program I will be attending was helped created by Marc Denny???? :?

I was told that we go though full contact stick fighting, Stick Grappling and other stick work corses. I looked at the Sgt. Face and said..I know who that person is. He said who? I said Mark Denny. I told him that I already trained in Kali and Kali under a Dog Brother named Guide Dog. Not to mention he started telling me what else goes on in CCQS and I was like. LOL..I already do this! This is gonna be great!

I was also shocked to find out that the CCQS knife work, Works around the Pkal Method of Blade down blade pointing in method

Crafty, Did you happen to have anything to do with this also or was this the work of someone else?

So my Sgt. Said to me " Then I guess your going to be bored, HUH?" I said No Sgt. If this is the Same Marc Denny that I think it is then I feel better already.

So anyways to make a long story short. It's good to be back in the Military and it's good to say hello to the friends, I have made on this forum.

P.S

To Guide Dog and the rest. I am sorry I missed the Gathering. It broke my heart to not be able to attend. I was at Ft. Irwin doing alot of "Getting Back into The Military" Drills. I had to go over breaching rooms, Marching, Command levels, Everything.

But to make a funny. To those of you here that know or read my worthless post. I work out way to much. WAY TO MUCH and I had to do PT test against Other Military and Sgt's and I ended up smoking them all. As a matter of fact one of the Sgt. started yelling at most of the Returns about it and most of those returns were 10 years younger then me.

First PT test for my age group

Push Ups 17 in 1 min    I pulled off  Drum roll   --------> 80

Sit Ups for my Age Group - 30 in one min    I pulled off ------> 80

1 mile Run ( 4 laps around the track) 1 mile in under 8 mins  I pulled it off in -------> 6 mins

Second PT Test.
Everything is double to 2 mins in push ups and Sit Ups and the Sgt stoped me and said..Ok enough we get the point.
My 2 mile run ( 4 laps around the track) I pulled it off in 15 mins.

Most of the people younger then me were dropping off the map.. BAD XBOX GENERATION!!!

Great job Max,

Ohhh so true about the X box generation, but with the new wave of Wii and MMA wanna b's I hope to see a change in the trend of out of shape, lazy fat bodies.  It kills me to see 18-20 yr olds fall out, when the old salty soldiers just keep on moving.

Again, well done.  Seems you are off to a good (re) start and have some good times ahead.

Way to lead from the front.

Hit me up any time you like.  It's a small military and often someone knows someone who knows one of us...

Take care and please stay in touch Brother.

Woof Maxx:

Our thanks and gratitude for stepping up for our country in these troubled times.  And respects on the PT!

Sounds like I need to get you into our Military/LEO website.  Email me and I will send you what you need.

The reverse grip reverse edge material is Southnark's influence-- yes the same one whose PUC DVD we sell in our catalog.   This has been an influence on me btw, the idiom of movement is now something that is part of what I do and teach.

The Adventure continues!

I am emailing you right now. Many thanks for the replys.

So South Narc had his hand in the new Method for the Army?  What about you in this CQCS? Is what I heard correct?

I guess not. Just excited to know and a little comforted by the fact that you had a hand in it. Actually, It made me feel alittle bit better because I in a way wont feel alone. It will be like having a friendly face there..I don't know if that makes any sence

Nice scores. How hot was it out there?  I was at Irwin last month (I teach explosive breaching and CQB for the Marines Special Operations Command) and it was HOT.  There was a storm that knocked out power.  Over 100 with no electricity. Good times.

Benning this time of year is nice too.  You get to add humidity and bugs to the heat.

Fort Polk LA has its charms too.  In addition to the heat and humidity, the local concept of health food consists of not deep frying the cigarettes.

I was Fu@%en Hot. Really Facken Hot. as a Matter of fact it was I liked it because it helped me push my limits in High Heat. Like I said before. Most of the Young guys who were going back in or attending their rsp training there were dropping of the radar like flys. a Couple guys (One who was returning who was Sp. Forces) were carrying the torch.

Not to gloat but I am because I want to make fun of the X-box/ Playstation generation but I work out and condition train about 5 to 6 times a week and maybe 2 to 3 times a day with fight training live mixed in there so I have the body of it. The Special Forces guy that was there and the other 4 older guys were in top TOP shape.

It felt great to walk out of the shower and watch the young pups quite down and kinnda get low spoken.

I looked around and nothing but flabby arm and shaggy gut. Now..Don't get me wrong not all of them were like that. The 17 to 23/24 year olds looked like that but then the deeper 20's to 30's looked better.

Here is a funny story. Three of the out of shape Wii Generation kids are talking to me and the Old Guys. They ask in turn what we are going back in as. It's gets to my turn and I say. Well, I was a Combat Driver and now I am going back in as a 29F Psy Ops..The Kid looks at me and says...That sounds weak. I am going to be a ranger.
Ex Special Operations guy looks at Child and goes " asshole, Do you even know what a Spec Ops guy is? Kid Goes " Um no but it doesnt sound hardcore like Ranger does" My buddy says " two things, One, YOU are never going to make it as a Ranger, TRUST me and two 29F go though hell to get attached to a unit that is going to go though hell just how a coremen gets attached to a Marines unit and he gets to go though hell

Needless to say...This kid was pretty mouth closed. Then we got to the PT and he did 14 half ass push ups in one min and 20 sit ups and dropped out of his 1 mile run

And you want to be a ranger??????  Ranger's Run to hell and back to heaven.

Congrats on going back in.
That kid sounds like he got snowed by the recruiter, but never count anyone out. PoiDog, ScurvyDog and Oli did some cool things in the military.

I think everyone does a good thing in the Military but when you have a closed mind and have no idea what you are talking about. That can be a bad thing.

Maxx,

I'm sorry to have missed my window to get to you by phone this summer. I tried several other times by E-mail and messages on this site. I had a job search going on and some getting over a really terrible work year to do, which was capped off by my broken foot, which was NOT martial arts related, but actually occurred on the job as a cherry to the worst academic year of my life. Anyway, I am now at another school, and the last few weeks have been great!

I really enjoyed training with you. Congrats on all of your numbers on those physical skills. I told you that you were pacing yourself at a superhuman level! Just listen to your body, and don't burn out. I have some new guys in the training group that have been working pretty hard, and one is getting ready to fight again after being thrown into the fray about a decade ago!

Respect to all of the members of our military. Nothing but respect and awe from me to you. Maxx, I wish that your time in service for our country shapes up to be what you were looking for. Take care of yourself, and most importantly, get home safe! I hope that we have a chance to train together again in the not too distant future. It sounds like I'll be attending YOUR training group when you get home.  All the best.

Be Safe,

Bryan
