DBMA Martial Arts Forum / Martial Arts Topics / What are some indications your finger is broken?
|
on: February 17, 2011, 11:33:41 AM

|
Can you actually hear a clicking? Or could that be something else? The tip of my finger is broken, I believe. What can aid in healing it the fastest.
I have immobilized it. But it is the tip so is doesn't move anyhow.
Created a cocktail of Fighter's Friend, Dita Jow, and arnica. Along with some calcium pills
I think I might just end up stinky with kidney stones and a broken finger.
Please advise
Pappy

I have been to Pearl Harbor and worked there and drank a few mai tais. The buildings there have been modernized but there still are machine gun holes from Japanese Zeros in the buildings at the base as a reminder. It is sobering.

Grandmaster Christoper N. Ricketts (March 21, 1955 - October 5, 2010)
It is with sadness and joy that we announce the passing and rebirth to eternal life of Grandmaster Christopher N. Ricketts on October 5, 2010 at 3:02AM. May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle, he is survived by his wife Beth Ricketts and sons Jason Ricketts, Bruce Ricketts, Brandon Ricketts and Christopher Ricketts, Jr.; daughter-in-law Jeanne, wife of Jason and grandkids Jacob, Jennell, Josh and Justin; parents Edith and Max Ricketts; younger brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie Ricketts and Mariz and nieces Marella and Marie; and youngest brother and sister-in-law, Alex Ricketts and Marybeth and nephews Jamie and James. Master Topher, known world wide as a consumate martial artist of Filipino decent, was loved by many but more importantly, respected by all. He was one of the founders and the Chief Instructor of Bakbakan International, a fraternal brotherhood of martial artists established in the Philippines in 1968 whose motto is “Matira Matibay” (The Best of the Best). Concerned with training and passing on his knowledge to students rather than collecting accolades and titles, Master Topher’s skills and credentials are impeccable and second to none. A senior disciple of the revered Grandmaster Antonio “Tatang” Ilustrisimo and one of the “Five Pillars of Kali Ilustrisimo”, he remained loyal to the memory and legacy of his teacher and was the highest ranked Ilustrisimo instructor in the United States. A close friend and training partner of the late Punong Guro Edgar G. Sulite who founded Lameco Eskrima, he was also the highest ranked Lameco instructor in the United States. With teaching credentials in several martial arts systems including Ngo Cho Kun (5 Ancestor Fist), Sagasa (Filipino Kickboxing System), as well as being a professional boxing trainer and fight choreographer, his was a life befitting a true warrior.
A public viewing, requiem mass and farewell offering (Halad) will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the California Cremation and Burial Chapel, 5880 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, California 92115. In lieu of flowers, donation to your favorite charity in the name of Grandmaster Christopher N. Ricketts will be greatly appreciated.
All members of the warrior class are encouraged to come in uniform to pay their last respects to one of the best of the best.
Sumasaiyo at Maraming Salamat (With Sincere Thanks), The Ricketts Family

Politics, Religion, Science, Culture and Humanities / Politics & Religion / What the US Navy is doing in the Desert
|
on: September 29, 2010, 06:50:49 PM

A friend of mine, a very educated friend of mine said these statements to me "What is the Navy doing in the desert" or "Not a lot of need for the Navy in the desert." He was of course referring to Iraq and Afghanistan. This is probably how many Americans feel or think. This hit me in a strange place because that week I had watched a focus group respond to questions about their opinions of the Navy. When asked "what comes to mind when I say the word Navy?" Many of the people had responses like "Boots, running, submarines, blue" Yes, these are part of the Navy, but, hardly the whole story. Much of what the people were talking about was a blending of all the services. They had seen ads for the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines and blended them. I work as a public Affairs Officer for the Navy Reserves. Here are some things the Navy is doing in the desert and around the world. DBMA Martial Arts Forum / Martial Arts Topics / Another Costa Rica story

An old friend (Gringo) owned a little market down there. He apparently was a little cocky about being an American. Was warned by the locals. He had to get bodyguards. Eventually, he was attacked in his store, at least one of the bodyguards were killed and he was put in critical condition by men wielding machetes. He is back in San Diego. Fortunately, he is alive and will probably have to donate his store to the country of Costa Rica.

I find that most of these are ceremonial and a sign of manhood and or status. As far as how to use them........Well, it seems the best porthole into the past where they use them is in the dances or that really really old guy who sits outside on the street corner drinking coffee. Usually the knife stuff is basic.
I have the same issues with the Greek and Cretan knives. Which I am researching for a possible book.

The UFC left me with a bad feeling. None of my picks won. However, Shogun is awesome. For some reason I feel like he is supposed to be the villain??? Maybe because Machida is Uber respectful and we are not used to seeing it. Super bummed with Cote. That dude he fought was strong. The Koscheck thing weird. Kimbo. Sam Stout fought really well. Opinions?

Yes their math is wonky.
SA1 can go 1 million frames per second but the resolution is horrible. Fastest actually used is 30,000 fps. Average is 5000 fps but go to 20,000 on a regular basis.
SA2 goes 10,000 fps but usually set at 1000-5000.
Phantom goes 1000 fps. Matt doesn't like to use it.
Fastec cube cams do 750 fps at decent quality.
This is a little better explanation

I saw that fight with Tom and Rog. He let Rog have it and Rog stood his ground and fought back. Impressive.
Guide Dog, I would be honored if you would take some my new guys out for a fight tomorrow. I know you will give them a good fight in the spirit of Dog Brothers and the day. I will come find you or if you get a chance see me before the fights get started and I will introduce you.
Thanks in advance,
Pappy Dog

There will be more later......However, I have give a Howl of appreciation to Guro CraftyDog and Pretty Kitty for putting on the event. If you ever planned a wedding, film shoot, military campaign, or fed up to 30 people, you know how much stress is involved. More later on how much fun it was....

I bought it. This video is high on production value and high in information. This is a great reference for all those Techniques that Guro I throws at us. Also Suzanne does a very good job of demo'ing and explaining. Easy to watch and learn from this dvd. This helps with the throws on "Combining stick and Footwork" and "Attacking Blocks"

In the write up, it is mentioned of a Karabao being taken down. This was being done in "Classic Dumog" style by the one and only Tuhon Gaje. It was in a rice paddy in two feet of mud. As the animal started to go over the Producer made him stop because he thought Gaje was going to hurt the animal.
