January 11 from 12-2pm, I will be hosting a training on footwork and conditioning. The conditioning will include lite sparring with soft sticks. This event will take place at 1212 Capitol Dr. Unit 6, Addison, IL. 60101. It's the home of Windy City Pekiti-Tirsia Kali. My friend Paul Ingram is helping us with having our event there. This is a free event. For equipment you will need Lacrosse, Hockey, Boxing, and/or MMA gloves. Fencing Mask (or other head gear), mouthpiece, and groin protector. And of course, bring rattan and soft sticks. Perhaps we can go for lunch afterwards. This is a private training for the DBMA Midwest Training Groups, but if you are reading this, consider this a personal invitation from us to you. Hope to see you there. Woof!

It's great to see this footage and compare our evolution from than to now. We continue to become stronger and closer. Like C-Shadow Dog said, if you want to be a part of something special, you find a way to be a part of it or you make it happen for yourself and others. We are blessed to have each other, to be a part of the bigger Tribe, which are the Dog Brothers, and to have Guro Denny's support through it all.

This is one of my favorite stories. I'm reminded right now of my Chinese Sharpei, Moctezuma. I miss him. He was a spoiled dog that only understood Spanish. His favorite appetizer was a tortiila before eating his food. He did not like running into rotts or bigger dogs during our walks. There were times were he would get into fights around my old neighborhood because people didn't believe in leashing their dogs or locking them up in their yard. At 11yrs old he became sick and vets could not identify the problem. In 2011 I went to my first Open Gathering. I had to board Moctezuma. The day of my departure I got a phone call from the boarding place. They weren't sure Mocte was going to live through the weekend. I almost didn't leave. But I left it in God's plans. Upon my return from California,  I found Mocte had waited for me. He was no lobger able to walk. I brought him home and sat with him for awhile. I knew the moment had come after months of seeing him deteriorate. I took him to the vet. I held him as he laid his head on my lap and went to sleep. I felt his Spirit leave his body and pass through me. My father had passed in 2009, and I know they are together, running forever free.

Martial Arts is the Path, Mastery is the Goal. Mastery is a standard to hold yourself to. It is possible that Mastery may never be achieved. You may think you know, but variables may change what you know. You may work on a technique for years and continue to find ways in performing it better. The Martial Arts Path may also change. As we get older, and hopefully wiser, we begin to work more on what our bodies are capable of doing. Dealing with injuries will also affect the Martial Arts Path and the Mastery. So continue on the Path to achieve the Goal, and adapt as needed to always "Walk as a Warrior for All Your Days!"

Dr. Dog, I am open to doing short vs long staff. Both have their advantages and disadvantage vs each other. Should be interesting. Woof!

Dr. Dog, I have about a 6 foot rattan staff. Should be arriving in LA today. I read you had a 54 inch staff. Do you have anything bigger? Woof!

What a great seminar we had in Chicago with Guro Marc Denny. He gave us a wonderful progression in the Bolo Game from stick to empty hands. He also demonstrated the importance of practicing a drill to develop the skill, then applying the information into functionality. For example, practicing Hubud and Lop Sao Cycle and applying them into Kali Tudo.

Outside of the seminar, it's always a pleasure to hang out with Guro. Conversation was either serious of nature, or playful. And seeing him is like picking up where we left off from his last visit.

Guro, thank you for trusting us and sharing your knowledge. I really appreciate you my friend. Woof!

Yes, yes, yes. Still have some slots available for semi private on Monday. 15 is the max. Guro Crafty will be covering more great information that will help with your stick fighting. If you find yourself in the Midwest, come hangout and train with us. We even have some people flying in from Canada.

Guro,

Thank you for establishing an environment where we can come and test our skills. This was my first Gathering and have to say that it definitely was transformational. The energy from everyone was amazing. My cousin that was in the audience put it best, "Everyone has two personalities. The one they fight with, and the friendly one before and after the fight."

It was awesome to experiment with the two on two knife fight. I just remember time went so fast. On my other fights, I remember time would either speed up, or slow down at certain moments. I was certainly living the moment.

But their is a "feeling" that goes further than just that day. I personally feel in touch with "something". A keen awareness with the "moment". And as I write this, I remember and can identify the "feeling", the "something", the "moment"...It is "Higher Consciousness"....

Thank you Guro.
