Looking for basic input on the proper use of Quick Clot; when to use, when not to use.
*QC is primarily for use in situations when there is an arterial bleed or external bleeding that cannot be controlled by a tourniquet or clamps due to location of the wound. IE Femoral artery near the groin area like in the scene from Blackhawk down.
*Think of QC as the "Last Resort" for life threatening bleeding in a combat environment. Tourniquets become number 1. Don't use QC if you can stop the bleeding with less invassive techniques. FYI: A surgeon is going to have to clean out all the QC before getting to work.
I gather there are now "QC sponges" for civilian use, to lessen the risk of inappropriate use.
*It's hard to keep up with all the variations of QC and HemaCon products.
I am coming at this not only from a desire to inform myself, but also because I am moving forward on our catalog offering a trauma kit. I'm thinking that QC should be included, but I'm also wondering about what info should be included.
*IMHO QC is a must for the kits but proper training is impotant with QC etc. Not sure of the Civilian legalities but I did have to go and get certified to use QC as a Corpsman/Devil Doc.
*Improper use can lead to 2nd-3rd degree burns to both patient and medical responder. QC reacts on contact with moisture. The applicators hands must be dry as well as the surface area around the wound openning. The wound may have to be modified into a "bowl shape" with very close access to the source of the severed artery. The QC is packed into the wound and with gauze or dressing material being pressed into possition until it turns into a clay like substance that clogs the leaking artery (aprox 2 mins time spent holding QC in place). In addition moving the patient can cause the QC to become dislodged and bleeding resumes.
As with any tool, the value becomes apparent when the situation calls for it. I plan on expanding on this more at the Winter Camp if Crafty deems fit to do so.
Hope this helps. KD

Woof All:
I am informed that the requisite time has passed and that we may now market directly the DVD of the PPV show of last year on our website. Hard to say exactly how long this will take to actualize, but know that the process is underway.

on Oct 15th, NoHo and K.I.L are sponsoring the 2nd Annual Beat the Crap Out of Cancer Event. We are donating all proceeds to www.kidskickcancer.orgIf you have ever wanted to fight with sticks or other weapons but were too scared to fight in the Gathering, this may be a good stepping stone for you. You can wear as much or as little protective gear as you feel comfortable with. It is an opportunity for us fighters to step forward and do something for a great cause. Each fighter will get "sponsors" such as the days when you did the M.S. walks. The sponsors will donate $5 per fight or $25 per day towards to you. We are hoping that each fighter gets at least 10 sponsors or sponsors that pay more then $25. Lets face it, each of us have known someone that's died, or fought a great fight against cancer, and may still be doing it. Do what you love, for those that you love. Contact me if you have any questions as I am the "lead" in the U.S. Woof!

Gratful for the ability to communicate with my Wife and find clarity where there once was confussion. The love and support of a great family as we near our 13 yr wedding anniversary. Semper Fidelis I feel blessed as this week goes on, it has been a while since I could say that. Only days ago, I was lost and feeling hopeless. This past Gathering Adventure has helped to brighten the way as well. Mahalo Nui Loa DB's

Had a moment of pure bliss tonight teaching martial arts in my new space. Only half of my mats were set up but we were finally able to safely cover some panuntukan/Silat style throws. One of my students said something like "I was completely exhausted before I got here tonight, but you're so excited when you teach that you make it impossible not to get pumped up."
I'm grateful for all of my instructors, including GC, who have played a part in shaping what I have to offer my students. After I had closed the big warehouse door, before I drove home at the end of the night, I stood in the wai position facing the many pictures (including some DB action shots) I have in my new academy with my eyes closed for about 30 seconds. It was an intense moment of feeling like I was doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing with my life.
Cherrish this feeling and work hard to maintain it. Proud to be your Dog Brother in this life. Yip

At least all the martial arts sticks and hand wraps you guys carry make good splints (; [/quot At least all the martial arts sticks and hand wraps you guys carry make good splints (;
IIRC In most cases it's good to remember, "One Bone = Two sticks / Two bones = One stick" IE. There are two bones in the lower/distal arm (Radius and Ulna) If the Ulna is broken but the Radius is not: "Two bones = One stick" but if the Humerous is broken: "One bone = Two sticks". Splinting Knees and elbows are fun to. I love the idea of using the sticks for splinting. I wonder how that would have worked out for Growling Dog going through Air Port security. Woof

TTT; Food for thought, what are some of the injuries we have commonly seen ata a Gathering in the last 3-5 yrs? Ulna damage comes to the top of my mind. *Tip, resist the urge to block a DB's "Caveman" strike with your arm. It is a reflex action that must be re-educated. Best block - dont be there Wrist and Fingers are high on the list as well. Tuck your thumbs. Head shots always come in high numbers and alot has been said on the subject of Head Trauma, TAKE HEAD SHOTS SERIOUSLY! Just one good headshot without the mask is like getting cut with a live blade. Take the head shots as seriously as you do the wounds received by the blade. Respect the potential of wisdom that could have been gained from the experience and swallow the pride enought to learn from the ones that bitchya. Just my .2cents - Been a long day but good night at the club. Yip, KD

Admin: I sent my fighter registration form via fax almost two weeks ago. I've been keeping an eye on the official list in hopes of confirming that it was received. I appreciate that Pretty Kitty has her hands full. Should I re-send / re-fax it in? PS Poi Dog, I would love a rematch. I think the last time you and I crossed sticks was at the corral See you all soon. KD

Kaju, I can do double w/no grappling, or single stick if you want.
CI
Kaju,
I would enjoy doing a double vs. double with no grappling or a staff vs. double with you, regardless of who is on staff and who is on double. Last public Gathering, we had a strep throat scare in the family so I didn't want to expose anyone to that and the last tribal, my son passed on a wonderfully nasty stomach bug to everyone in the house. I've been away for a year and am excited to step back out there in September (knock on something...)
GD
Excellent Done and Done I wouldn't mind going once with the staff then against the staff. Cool

I remind myself that there will be a time to stop, but just not now,...AND that it is better to be a "Has been" then a "wanna-be".
Woof C-Mighty Dog
My thoughts exactly. Im know where near the shape I was in at my first Gathering and to be honest, post the DB Coral Gathering, I have been craving the level of enlightenment found then. I stand in my own way alot but hope to make a personal comeback. I fear being one of those sort that earns Dog status and then begins to fade away. OTOH I also find it harder to come out with the fear that I once had and the intensity when on the attack. I respect the damage that comes from harder contact but as I get to know my fellow DB's, it becomes harder to knowingly harm a Brother. I also realize that I pose challenges that favor me due to my bum knees and thats not fair to my Brothers/Sisters either. OK, done rambling in self pitty.

Not sure but maybe this place fits my post First off, HUGE HOWL of RESPECT to those who continue to ascend and strengthen the Tribe as a whole. I have severly aggrivated my lower back again and move like I need a walker (Wife wants to get me a Hoveround ). Missing the last Tribal has left a deep void in my gut, Im inspired by Dog Howie and his Warrior spirit. I don't care if I have to FIGHT from a wheelchair, I refuse to let this defeat me. I fear that I may need the "Spinal Fusion" surgery sooner than hoped for. Going back to the VA hospital Friday to find out more. So why am I telling you this? I AM a DOG BROTHER, I dont take the privilage lightly and felt I needed to communicate since I have tendencies to withdraw from social interaction at times due to my PTSD. Never been good with watching from the sidelines when it comes to being around Men / Women of ACTION. With respect always, Dean "Kaju Dog" Webster Fresno, CA.

Gratful to be working along side my teacher and like minded Brothers again. Gratful for no serious injuries and an entertaining crowd at the club. I quit drinking a bit over a week ago and seeing a lot of drunks definately encourages me to leave the booze alone. If any of my Brotheren end up in Fresno for whatever reason, visit Club Rome and say hello... I got your back. TAC

I would like to use a three sectional Staff and a Long Staff as weapons for the Gathering. If anybody is interested to fight against those weapons please let me know I've taken an interest in the health benefits of the short staff and hope to take you up on a future staff fight but will humbly resist your temptation until I find my comfort zone with the added length and weight. I would love a knife fight...
