At the moment I am looking a the first rough edit of Kali Tudo 2 and am awaiting the first rough edit of DLO-3.   Given our concerns about piracy and related matters (see thread nearby), there is a chance that I will say "Screw it!" and do DLO-3 as a LEO/Military project only.

Great! Really looking forward to it Guro. By the way, How'd the Kali Tudo 2 footage come out? Can't wait for that DVD.

I am also looking forward to both dvds.  I have both DLO 1 & 2 and the Kali tudo.  They are first class and I look forward to the release of your current projects.

Thanks for all your efforts

I understand and share your concerns about piracy but I sincerely hope you don't move in this direction.  I think "LEO/Military only" would be going contrary to the spirit of the DLO concept.  However I will respect your decision in these matters.

Looking forward to purchasing DLO-3 as a lowly civvy.

If I decide to continue with DVDs at all-- and that is a question all its own-- an option with DLO 3 would be to simply have a  civilian version with some additional footage available only to LEO/Mil.

What gets me to thinking about this is that I was watching the ruff cut of the Ohio footage this afternoon (which was shot at the Canton OH Police Department Training Center) and the simple fact is that there are things in there that belong only in the LEO/mil domain for reasons practical, moral, and spiritual.

Night Owl is working on the ruff edit of the studio footage now, and perhaps will be integrating it with the OH footage at the same time.

Sounds like a wise direction Sir.

Even though my teaching is not as broad, I have found myself teaching one way to MARSOC, another to NAVY, another to Civilians and lately another to LEO's.

There are definite boundaries to all directions that will enable such specific agencies to utilize the material.

Wise indeed...

I tend to agree, the situations that present themselves to LEO's, civilians or to military personal, tend to be "typically specific" as is what is viewed as "reasonable force" for those same categories.
Perhaps 3 different versions?
Though I an note sure what can be added on to DLO3 for civilians, I mean, DLO and DLO2 covered pretty much everything.

Ronin:

Tail wags for the compliment, but rest assured, there is more.  DLO-1 was a broad overview of the gun, knife, and EH paradigm and the Kali Fence, the Dog Catcher, getting off the X, appendix carry and draw, and FOF drills. That's a lot of material, even for the triple disc that DLO-1 was-- our intention was to show how all the pieces fit together.

DLO-2 looked at CQ gun vs knife:  when to go to gun first and when to fight first.   Also, it showed some additional depth to the DC.

DLO-3:  We think the KF has a lot of merit.  Whereas DLO-1 showed the relation of the different pieces of our approach to the GKEH paradigm, DLO-3 focuses on the KF and getting it right and showing more of the options that exist for this structure.  The KF is meant to be used in real world situations where there may well be no limit on how bad things can go sideways and in our opinion, this means paying a lot of attention to it.

DLO-4 will focus on the anti-knife technique of the DC and its progeny.

"I have been working in some of the most dangerous night clubs and bars  in boston for the last 8 years. In that time I have seen with devastating consequence what happens when people are caught off guard when knives are involved in street violence. I have seen friends get stabbed, and friends die because of the ambush nature of knives on the street. And I can say that the mindset and skillsets that are cultivated with the DLO material have made the difference on those dark nights where I was truly scared for my life. I have put my life behind this material and I am still here typing this now so it gives you an understanding of how effective this material is. If you are going to put your life behind any training this is the place to start"

After being given the privilege of getting a sneak preview of the beginning of the DLO3 DVD when I was in LA recently, I felt I had to post some comments.

Even with the issue of gun being lesser in the UK, I found the material on the 1st two DLO dvd's eye opening in many ways. It's changed a number of existing aspects of my "reality" game and added new ones as well.

What I've seen of DLO 3 so far not only expands on this further, but deeper. The fact that it's also more one-on-one instruction rather than seminar footage, imho, allows for much greater understanding of the material being presented. All in this is the logical progression of the foundations Guro Crafty has already put in place with the 1st two volumes.

I can't wait to get this on pre-order  :-D

Well , , , maybe later today

Anyway, here's this:

"Die Less Often 3"
featuring Guro Crafty Dog
assisted by Poi Dog
$40

In the triple disc "Die Less Often" we began sharing our take on "the Interface of Gun, Knife, and Empty Hand".    We introduced threat management, "the Kali Fence", weapon access issues, pre-emption/interception tactics and techniques, reactive techniques ("the Dog Catcher"),  and tested them all full force in Force-on-Force drills using people who had trained in the material for only a day and a half in order to show that the material had a practical primal state foundation that could be installed to good effect in remarkably short order.

In DLO 2, the focus shifted to accessing a gun during a knife attack.  Here the focus discerning whether one needed to deal with the knife attack before accessing the gun, or whether to use range control, angle, and certain footwork to go for the gun before the knife attack arrived.  Again, this was tested in Force-on-Force drills.

Having shown dynamic testing of the fundamentals structures, in DLO 3 we turn to a deeper study of the particulars of managing unknown contacts/threat management, the Kali Fence, the angular brachial stun, how to start the fight by getting to your intended attacker's back while denying/controlling his potential for weapon access, weapon neutralization, (capture, disarm, and/or receiver grip) and much more.

DLO 1 showed the big picture of some material we think to be pretty sharp and really practical -- now DLO 3 gives the little details and fill in your matrix of options that deepen your understanding and raise your ability to apply the material in ever more challenging situations.

If you are in the military and dealing with potential hostiles up close, in law enforcement, corrections work, security work, door work, or if you simply want to have these understanding for yourself as you "walk as a warrior for all your days".

very cool promo clip  :-)

The angular brachial stun is a very strong structure capable of being a shot in its own right as demonstrated in the DLO3 clip, as well as an interceptor which a flinching reaction "locks and loads" (the basis of Tony Blauer's SPEAR System). The upper body mechanics of the angular brachial stun are actually similar to Tony's Tactical SPEAR.

I don't know if there's ever been any collaboration, or if it's just that great combative minds come to similar conclusions based off their own experiences, but in my case, as a SPEAR advocate and a fan of FMA, the DLO series represents the possibility of melding these two areas of my interest together. Now I've only gotta order the DVD  :-D

Yepper, synergy in the way the tools are used can make simple "little" stuff massively effective.  I watched a Aikidoka take down/away a knife in the casino, he went for the merge and guide, but instead of letting go used the 1 arm tackle (football)and  head push (sanjitsu?)that guided the guy into the concrete floor head first.   The guy guy was out cold for 2 minutes along with a concussion, and it all looked so....gentle.
