Maelstrom Martial Arts provides training in impact and bladed weapons,
specializing in the Southeast Asian arts including kali, pencak silat,
and krabi krabong. In addition, ground fighting with weapons is
offered, drawing upon Brazilian jiu-jitsu, pencak silat, and
dumog-pangamut. Critical to the skills acquired in regular classes is
their application in Real Contact fighting. Dog Brothers Martial Arts
provides the crucible within which all weapon skills at maelstrom are
tested. Students at all levels are encouraged to develop confidence,
intensity, and insight through regular practice of DBMA - appropriate
for self-defense and home/family security, as well as personal
exploration of the limits of martial expression.
My teachers in Dog Brothers are Philip "Sled Dog" Gelinas of Montreal
and Marc "Crafty Dog" Denny. I owe both men an incalculable debt of
gratitude for what I have been given.
