Eric Knaus series on DVD
« Reply #1 on: February 22, 2005, 02:12:34 PM »
Hello Cindy,

It's good to read about the re-release of the orginal DB series on DVD.
Since I already have the first series on VHS, I would like to know if DVDs are remastered or just VHS transfered to DVD.   If the former, I'll purchase the entire set.  They are some of the best instructional tapes in existence, definitely the best in the stickfighting material.  The old Gathering tape and the first series are "life changer" videos.

Thanks !

Hello Pretty Kitty,

a few month ago Guro Crafty mentioned that also a DVD on Dos Manos/staff/sibat could be possible?
Is something planned in this direction?

Good training to all of you, Wotan

Preparation for fights--conditioning
« Reply #3 on: February 24, 2005, 09:46:41 AM »
You know what would be great to see?  Video of Guru Crafty, Top Dog,
and others preparing for their Gathering fights.

There's one clip I remember of Top Dog tossing a great big tire, and then
running to it as he swings his stick.

I'd like to see conditioning exercises--cardio, endurance, strength, etc.--that help get your ready for a Gathering.

Can more of this be put on the new DVDs, either as a standalone DVD or together with the original series on DVD?

Thanks,
Pat

Some technical questions:
What region code are they?
Do you have PAL (region 2) as well?
Is there new material (if yes, what) on the DVDs?

About the DVDs... (Marc will have to answer the questions about what else is in the works, AND the techi question regarding the first series)

All our DVDs are being produced in NTSC All Region.  No plans to produce in PAL.  We've tested this DVD format in Europe on several players and not had a problem.

The DVDs are remastered and include bonus footage.

Woof All:

Allow me to underline that point about additional footage.

In this vein. our conversion of "The Grandfathers Speak" to DVD, which was just been completed (but for the box cover), will include nearly 30 minutes of additional footage based principally around an interview I did with GM Leo Giron of Bahala Na Arnis/Eskrima about his CQC jungle experiences in WW2.  Editor "Night Owl" has put a lot of really good work intot this one.  We hope people are really going to like it.

Additional DVDs coming soon:

"Kali Tudo"(tm)  Kali-Silat for the Cage.  This is about 95% done.

"Single Stick Los Triques":  Big stick integration of Kali and Krabi Krabongd (The Three Ks, Los Tri-ques, get it?)

"Double Stick Los Triqques"  The core DVD for the footwork matrix that applies to all weapons categories as well as double stick fighting.

"Staff".  Our first assembly edit reveals something that need to be re-shot.

Woof,
Crafty Dog

Are you going to make a second part to  the Kali Tudo (tm) dvd/video?

Woof Myke:

The current "Kali Tudo" (tm) is already about to run over 90 minutes, so we are thinking of dividing it into a Double DVD set.

The material in it is dedicated to angular striking crashes.

Probable future KT (tm) DVDs will cover KT for the ground-- against guard, from guard, from side control.  With the number of DVD projects currently in the pipeline in may be a while before we get to it though.

Woof,
Guro Crafty

Hi, good to hear you've put a lot of effort on the DVDs to also bring additional value to those who already have the tapes. Too often we see just VHS material transferred to DVD which is sad, as DVD as a media provides a lot more possibilities. I guess I'll have to start saving money again... ;-)

LOST TRIQUES is DONE: Pretty Kitty should have the box cover done in a day or two and then everything will be sent to the Duplication House.

STAFF is DONE:  Box cover is DONE and will be sent to the Dupe House with LT.

And today Night Owl surprised with a DVD master of "A Dog Brothers Gathering of the Pack".  Very polished, NO's game keeps getting better with each outing.  "Dogzilla's First Day" is the extra

As we continue to work on the conversion of the "Dog Brothers Real Contact Stickfighting" series to DVD in the lulls between putting out our new DVDs, we have been looking to see if we can offer multi-language capabilites, either dubbed or sub-titled.  Long story short-- for the volume involved, it would be too expensive.

So we have come up with a poor man's version:  Transcriptions.

After a long search, I have finally found someone to transribe the audio of the videos and have a small network of foreign students who will translate the text into the respective native languages.  So far we have Spanish, German, and Italian.  Today I sent the files for POWER and for FOOTWORK to them.

Changing subject, it looks like the master for Guro Lonely Dog's "Cycle Drills" will be finished tomorrow 8)  Then we must do the box and we can send it all to the dupe house.  Speaking as Guro Lonely's teacher, I am quite proud and am quite confident that people will like this DVD (his first, but not his last) a lot.

The Adventure continues,

Crafty, Bruno Cruicchi speaks 8 or 9 languages and does subtitles. That is how he makes a living with his own business.
He is in Europe now, but may hit South Florida for Christmas. If you are interested, I will pass it by him during coffee and Garrote lessons.

Bruno and I spoke last week.  He has graciously offered to help transcribe the first series into several languages which we do not have covered already.

DBMA Cycle Drills featuring Guro Lonely Dog is due to arrive Thursday!
