"...grappling happens. It just does." - Top Dog

« on: August 02, 2005, 10:21:30 AM »

...after finishing reading Guro Crafty's article on Kali Tudo in the new black belt, i flipped through the mag. what caught my eye was that Tom 'The Whip' Meadows has a book out on the whip with paladin press book...

ack! just spent money on the DB staff dvd and Los triques, and on my must-get books list is mark hewitt's catchwrestling book. now, i gotta add tom meadows' book.

for those that don't know, the fighter with the whip in real contact stickfighting v6 was tom meadows. anyone see/get this book yet?

Woof All:

My son Conrad & I stopped by Tom's place in Cambria (an incredibly beautiful place btw) a few weeks ago on a drive up to the bay area and I got to see the book.  He only had one copy at that moment and so I was not able to walk away with my very own copy, but I was highly impressed with what I saw.

The book includes chapters on other approaches to the whip as well as Tom's and for these chapters alone the book is worth buying.  That said,
Tom I think has used his experience fighting with Top Dog to very good effect.  He has thought long and well about the length of the whip and greeting any "succeessful" closes with a knife.

I will be buying my very own copy.

Woof,

when i used to have time to read Eskrima Digest, i recall Tom Meadow's posts on his experiences fighting Top Dog. i cannot wait to check out this book once excess cash is available.
