    The easiest most secure one involves changing hands as well.

    At all times the tip should be forward. Where possible align with gravity so that the knife “falls” into the receiving hand.

    For example:

    R-Hammer, palm up. L-hand receives into IP.

    It will be very common that this will change the orientation of the blade to reverse edge. Play with this change and experience this. Depending on the particulars of the handle, with practice you should be able to develop the ability to roll the handle within your receiving grip so as to keep the edge out orientation should you wish.

    It should be noted that within all this we see the wisdom of having at least basic proficiency in the four basic grips:

    IP edge out
    IP reverse edge
    Hammer edge out
    Hammer reverse edge.

    Note too the relevance of the four grips should you have to pick up a knife in a hurry i.e. without the time to choose which of the four grips you will achieve.
