As we get older, power blocking Muay Thai kicks becomes , , , less appealing 😀
As you get the feel for loading your springiness with the cross-step, with a bit of , , , craftiness , , , you can trick him into believing you are going to power block so that when he does not receive the contact he was expecting he is momentarily overextended in his balance– the perfect moment for you to spring forward.

Very important movement that opens many possible ways to counter: in stickfighting but also in empty hand fights (Kali Tudo).
The older I get the less interested I am in the hard blocks of MT. The cross step gives me a way of responding that not only does not hurt, but keeps me in range to counter.
I actually learned a variation of this in a muay thai class recently…the cross step, then spring back in with a lead hook, cross, switch kick
