Until his account is approved:

"my account is still waiting admin approval. I hate computers. anyway, I seem to recall from my college years that their exist an idea further up the chain in the scientific community concerning a relationship between start and finish/infinitely big and infinitely small. Allow me to clarify. In string theory the idea goes; if you continue to magnify into atomic structure, past the atom, nucleus, proton, quark, and keep going you end up at basically a resonating string of energy. This string may very well closely resemble the universe as a whole. So what's interesting is their may be no difference. How this may relate to what were discussing, as I'm purely speculating here. Perhaps the relationship between sex and violence simply highlights the contradictory yet simultaneous desire to both propel the existence of humans (procreation, survive, etc..) and also to destroy it. Hence yin and yang, good and evil, and the war that has allowed the universe to begin in the first place.

I recently stumbled upon this knife online and inside of a email chain a number of us turned it into a rather intellectual conversation.

http://www.bostonblueyes.com/blog/nice-knife.jpg

With that said, here is the conversation:

"Being one that is interested in symbols and metaphor... and even devoted some time in his formative early 20's studying such things in college, I could tell you some interesting things about what that knife is implying... but I don't think you guys probably want to hear about any of it :P"

"Mr. Gruhn,

I don't know if you remember Crafty talking about the homo-erotic nature of prison stabbings but I think that something like this would sum what crafty was talking about...

-mike"

"That Crafty, he is a smart man. If I remember correctly the word "vagina" translates directly into the word "sheath." So you have a sword (you can figure out which body part that equals for yourself) and a sheath. Stabbing someone is a dominant act where you "sheath your sword" so to speak. Also take into consideration that there are two acts that people engage in in which they try to occupy the same space. One is fighting, the other also starts with the letter F. Any guesses what it is? :P Both of these activities are coming from the same primitive area of the brain that is concerned with survival. It actually makes a lot of sense... to create a family you do one of the F's. To protect your family you do the other F.

Jon"

"Speaking of sheaths

http://www.teethmovie.com/"

"The relationship between sex and violence is even more readily apparent when you look at the rest of the animal kingdom. Humans (and a few of the other higher primates) are the only ones that have built an artificial wall between the two. If you look at many canines they not only fight their competition for the rights to spread their genes, but they often even fight with thier hard won mate. Small children often catch their parents in the act, and mistake what is happening as some sort of violent altercation.

It is an interesting subject. Most people get freaked out and stop thinking about it. They immediately make some connection with homosexuality, which it is most certainly not about at a base level. I can see how it would turn into that in a prison environment, and that had never occured to me. I guess I have never been up close and personal with prison violence though, and I really aim to keep it that way :P

Add a megacorp. religion like Christianity into the mix and the entire thing turns into a giant mess, but at heart that knife really demonstrates the two most fundamental instincts of life:

1. Spread your genes at all cost!
2. Kill any mofo that gets in your way!
Jon"

"So, could I make the leap and say, people that are into S&M or autoerotic asphyxiation that ‘wall’ is thinner. Mixing their sex and violence like dogs and cats do?"

Rampage should have rushed Forrest "Tito" style in the first round and G&P'ed him like what happened when Forrest fought Keith J.  I have no clue why Rampage was soo timid.  I also think that Forrest could have finished the fight much earlier if he would have continued with the leg kicks.  This was a perfect example of how effective they are and why no one should stay so flat footed (Rampage).

Props to BTT Canada and everyone at GAMMA!  That was a big win for Cote.

Crafty,
I am the head striking coach.  I teach Muay Thai and Boxing to our fighters.  I am also the head instructor for all of the striking classes we hold at the gym for the public; Women's Kickboxing, Boxing, Muay Thai, MMA along with Youth Martial Arts and obviously Filipino Martial Arts.  Jeff Rockwell is teaching Jiu-Jitsu to our fighters and is teaching the ground portion of the MMA classes.  We also have on staff, several All American wrestlers to teach wrestling along with some excellent strength and conditioning coaches.  I've spent the majority of my time, and plan on spending the majority of my time training the fighters and bringing top level instruction to the public classes.

Here is the press release about the gym we just opened up in State College!

Mixed Martial Arts LANDS “BIG” in STATE COLLEGE, PA-

-Establishment of 19,000 square foot MMA Training Center

State College, PA-  LionHeart Professional Management and Promotions Inc. enters the field of professional mixed martial arts announcing the acquisition of a 19,000 sq ft MMA training facility and the establishment of Team LionHeart in downtown State College, PA.

Located at 127 Sowers Street, just blocks off Penn State’s Main Campus and home to one of the best NCAA Division I wrestling programs in the country, the facility will include a 22 ft octagon, a 24 ft boxing ring, 6,000 sq ft of MMA mat space, and 8,000 sq ft of Hammer Strength, Free Weights and Aerobic Equipment making it one of the largest and best equipped MMA training facilities East of the Mississippi.

Owner Chad Dubin, says the majority of reputable MMA training camps and facilities are currently located in the Midwest and Western states.  “There’s clearly a demand for a facility of this kind on the East Coast.  Fighters who are serious about having successful, professional MMA careers as well as young athletes on their way up, now have access to elite coaching, state of the art facilities and professional career management, all in one location.”

Dubin also believes that many young MMA fighters find it difficult to transition into the professional ranks because their day jobs keep them out of the gym.  “LionHeart will aggressively pursue a unique career development strategy for our fighters which includes event planning, targeted fundraising, and grass-roots fan base development.  We will groom young fighters for professional careers and create an environment where professionals will become champions.”

LionHeart is well positioned to benefit from 2 significant factors: 1) the PA State Gaming Commission’s decision to sanction professional MMA events; and  2) Pennsylvania has the largest population of wrestlers and wrestling fans in the country.

Team LionHeart’s staff includes coaches specialized in grappling, striking, jiu-jitsu, muay-thai, wrestling and strength and conditioning.

Fighters and coaches interested in learning more about the opportunities at LionHeart should contact Chad Dubin at (814) 280-1982 or chad@lionheartfighters.com.

Well I guess it's settled.  Who wins; the wrestler or the BJJ'er?  Neither,.....its the boxer with the longer reach.

Good fight tonight and if it wasn't for Sherk being so short in the reach department I think he would have clipped BJ with some of those punches.  I'm still not sure why the heck he stayed right in the firing lane of BJ's jab.  Some false lead jab material really would have done him well.  I'm bummed it didn't go to the ground but hey, it was a decent fight.

Ehhh, if he taps me I think that would be considered a win.  If he out points me, I think it's considered a win.  However, I'm 155 when I'm in shape, soaking wet I might be able to hit 160. That's 20 pounds.  In any event, I'll roll him anyways as I love to train with anyone who has some good experience.

225
Sounds like a plan!  If not this August, next time I'm out.

Tom,
I'm by no means a high level BJJ guy but I'll roll with your wrestler just so long as he doesn't have a large weight advantage on me.  I love rolling with top level guys of which your guy seems to be.  If we all take the Crafty seminar in Ohio we could roll before lunch if you'd like.

227

I like to train in bare feet.  When we used to be at the Raw gym for gatherings I ventured out once onto the mat with no shoes.   I usually however, fight with wrestling shoes.  I don't want a bulky shoe getting snagged in things when I'm grappling.

Crafty is wise.

I'll second that  :-D

Along the same lines , a fighter was onced asked the question we are debating here:  "Who wins?  The BJJ guy or the Wrestler?"

He replied with . . . "The wrestler/BJJ'er who knows BJJ/Wrestling."  :-D

For that very reason we can't accuratly debate this nowadays without having a true wrestler vs. true BJJ'er fight.  We can't find them anymore because both wrestlers and BJJ'ers see value in their respective art.

You need to step back and take a look at the entire picture with every fight.  "Situational Change Variables" come into play with everything.  I could go on to using the example of the 1st Matt S. vs. GSP as BJJ beating GSP but that simply isn't the case.  GSP admits he didn't train the way he should have and underestimated Serra.  My point being that if a fighter is disrupted from any number of reasons it can throw off their game, wrestler or BJJ'er.  Additionally, no fighter is ever the same in every fight.  More fighters than not that have continued to fight past their prime become "has beens."  Royce, Ken S., and now what I am seeing with a few Pride/UFC fighters who have fought past their prime are starting on their way down.  Whether it's because the newer fighters are better or because the "has been" fighter is out of shape, not training right, etc.  Step back and look past the styles.

The knifer (I don't wish to call him a boyfriend anymore), is focused entirely on the women.  As soon as I found this out I would immediately turn it into a two on one battle to get the knife away from the women.  While he is mounting her, more specifically "S" mount it would not be hard to pull him off of the women to the side he is S-mounted via his knife arm.  This would minimize the worry of getting stab as I was pulling him off of her and lessen the chances of the knife getting closer to her again.  I'd most likely take the knife to the ground and put my knee/foot on his hand to get the release of the weapon.  While this is murder, I don't think I would feel the right to kill him with his own knife if it became a battle for the knife.  Even after he is off of her in the clip you can tell he is out of it not really realizing what is going on so I don't think he would have attacked me.  Then again, anything could happen.

I think you should change "fairly" to extremely.  I have a really hard time watching clips like this.  I am amazed that she was stabbed what looked to be numerous times in the neck and didn't bleed out in a shorter amount of time.  It also seemed that her boyfriend was on A LOT of drugs.  I wonder if she made it or not.
