Martial Arts Topics / Re: Tony Felix seminar

From Tony Felix:

SATRIA FIGHTING ARTS is the umbrella name for the Arts we now practice. But a major part of this Art is still the Wali Songo Family System of Pencak Silat.  Because we also train PENJANG GULAT-Indonesian Wrestling and Ullar-The Snake System which are technically speaking not Pencak Silat and we also train in Badui Arts which have many similarities to Ancient Thai Arts we needed a name that would honour all of these arts.  The underlying philosophy of continuity and approach to combat is still based on the principles emphasized in the Wali Songo system.

Traditional Silat is a weapon based Art so there is an awareness of Bladed weapons within all the techniques taught and trained.  Although the Indonesian and Filipino arts are very close in geographcal location of their homelands and with many overlapping practices, one of the primary differences in approach is the use of langkah and another is emphasis on using the principles of Pukulan-The Art of continuous circular striking- in using the Pisau (short-bladed knife).

Be very well Guru Marc.

Hey Marc,

Thanks for the plug.  It's gonna sound lame because she's my wife, but honestly this DVD is really, really good.  Suzanne has put together a complete Silat curriculum for the beginner, intermediate and advanced student.  It's laid out very clearly with multiple camera angles and separate close ups for the fine details.  The program includes:

--Ground Warmup

--Ground Mobility and Evasion techniques

--Ground kicks

--Standing evasive footwork

--Partner kicking drills

--Takedowns

--Ground vs. Stand up (partner drills)

--Stand up vs. Ground (partner drills)

--Counter for counter takedowns

--Backsweep (silhig) series

--Shield (karasak) series

--Counter for Counter combinations

--BONUS!! Ikat (handkerchief) techniques

If you want to use Silat to improve your conditioning, flexibility, strength. ground movement and transitioning from the feet to the ground, this DVD is for you!  Please check out the You Tube link at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3r4oXOX_tc

Hey all,

Once again, this notice is here with Crafty's blessing.

Sifu Francis Fong will be teaching a seminar at the Inosanto Academy next January 27, 28.? Sifu Fong is an incredible teacher and his instruction has helped me in every martial art I train: Kali, Boxing, Muay Thai, Savate, Silat, JKD, BJJ, you name it, his approach to center line, his sensitivity drills and his method for grounding thereby delivering optimum power with minimal force are invaluable.? If you want to see believable and truly jawdropping trapping and transitions from standup to ground you will want to attend this workshop.

I recommend visiting his website www.francisfongacademy.com, if you're in So Cal preregister for the seminar at the Inosanto Academy, www.inosanto.com, you will not be disappointed.

sincerely,
John Spezzano
