Woof All:
It appears that there is go to be a DB PPV on TV. Major players e.g. Dish, are involved. Projected airing date is late fall.
The Adventure continues!

It looks like the first show will be based upon the last Gathering at the RAW Gym: Fall 2005.
-
I am surprised that this hasn't been posted to death by now. What a great possibility to expand the horizons of DBMA.
Crafty, how will it work? Is it going to be the PPV broadcast of something live, or is it all material you have in the can with newer commentary. This is all very intriguing.
Good luck on this.

Woof Sled Dog:
I'm a bit surprised at the lack of commentary myself.
The first show will be of highlights of the Fall 2005 Gathering, which was the one that Original Productions shot at the RAW Gym to produce the pilot that led to the Nat Geo documentary, which was shot at OP's warehouse which was the set for its "Monster Garage" show.
Working with existing footage:
a) enables us to keep control of what goes out;
b) enables us to use footage where fighters are not subject to temptations of posturing;
c) keeps our costs down; and
d) enables us to feel our way into this.
We have to submit the final edit of the first show by August 15th and it should air sometime in October or November.
The Adventure continues!

WOW intresting and cograts :-D hope we the ones not in USA get a chanse to see it
-
I'm a bit surprised at the lack of commentary myself.
I think it's a mix of having heard about a previous TV project that did not come to fruition, and not wanting to jinx it. It's not a "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude; it's a "let's maintain excitment and see what really comes about" attitude.
I think it sounds great, and I'm glad that the timeframe for the edit on the first show is so soon!
-
Interested to hear more about this
Pappydog
-
GD:
That makes sense.
Pappy:
At the Gathering in question you have some great fights. You will be looking good!
-
My excuse was I was away and busy but now I know and looking forward to it!
Mabuhay ang DBMA !!

Seconded!!
-
The 2005 pilot has some good stuff on it. Seems like a good show could be edited from that footage. As far as the shows that never manifested, they to may some day find new life as did the 2005 pilot. It's all good! 8-)
-
We're excited. Please keep us informed about whether this is DISH or some other network. Advanced notice may be required to subscribe to the channels.
P.S. Somehow I missed the original posting.
-
"I'm a bit surprised at the lack of commentary myself."
Woof Guro - I just thought you were playing cards close to the chest until the right time since the posts were a little mysterious, and it would be disrespectful to ask until you were ready to inform us. Baited breath is the term....
There would definintely be viewing parties arranged around these events in this neck of the woods!

I'm working right now for the next several days but will post full information next week.
-
Lurking but admittedly VERY psyched. Stuff like this could provide a nice financial boost to DB,Inc. I hope and also it's great to be able to tell people who ask me what kind if fighting I do... something to refer them to... I have referenced the discovery channel production a couple of times but it's great to have this.
Crafty, I'm wondering what your thinking is on privacy issues of fighters (if you consider that fighters have any privacy issues in the first place)? This would be the first I have understood that footage would be available for viewing by the general media consumer.
-
Ummm , , , not sure why you would think that. From the very beginning part of the deal has been that Dog Brothers Inc. gets all rights to the footage etc. Footage has been appearing in publicly offered for sale videos/DVDs for some 17 years now! And there was the Nat Geo show too, which has been aired many, many times.
Anyway, here is the In Demand schedule for the show:
1) In Demand.
iN1 10/18 at 10:00pm
iN1 10/18 at 1:00am
iN3 10/19 at 6:00pm
iN2 10/20 at 1:30pm
iN3 10/21 at 11:00am
iN1 10/21 at 9:00pm
iN2 10/22 at 10:30am
iN3 10/23 at 12:00pm
iN1 10/25 at 11:00pm
iN2 10/27 at 7:30am
iN1 10/28 at 8:00pm
iN2 10/29 at 6:30pm
iN1 10/30 at 8:00am
iN3 10/30 at 11:00am

Woof Marc. Is that the schedule for the upcoming new PPV show? I don't have any experience with InDemand . indemand.com shows PPV providers as Comcast in my area, but has trouble showing me the schedule even for 10/02 . What's the name of the show? Awesome.
As for appearance on TV, Marc includes this line on the fighter registration form : "All copyright (video etc.) belongs to DBIMA, i.e. we can use your fight etc. in our videos and otherwise." As international television coverage may not be obvious with that disclaimer, a phrase such as "If you do not want your fight to appear on TV, just watch." should be included in both the registration form and the ritual speech.
-
Sting/Baltic Dog:
I don't really understand how the PPV thing works, except for what we can watch via out satellite TV service. The name of the show is "Dog Brothers Cruel Combat"
As for the language on the fighter registration form, "video etc , , , and otherwise" seems rather obvious and quite clear to me; my intention has always be to be quite clear-- just like "no suing for no reason for nothing no how no way". Both are all-encompassing language. Forgive my crankiness (lot of elbow pain from an injury sustained last week) but I am not getting how this can be missed.
I've been at making Dog Brothers Gatherings happen for 22 years now. My truck is 20 years old. I think people should be glad that I have a shot at some success here!
-
Im stoked about the exposure and opportunity for Craftys Dreams to become reality. If there is EVER ANYTHING that I can do to help, Im down.
To me, the terminology is very clear in regard to the possible and VERY LIKELY event of public exposure of any and all things that go down at any DB's event. In fact I have to admit that I plagerized some of the terminology for my own waivers that my students and participants sign.
To amend the DB's "MAGIC WORDS" at this time would be to indirectly admit that it has not been clear, when IMO it is VERY CLEAR.
just my .2 cents for the IOU its worth... LOL

Woof Marc, Your success is well-earned, and you've already amassed an excellent collection of appearances on TV that will live on for decades. We're all eager to watch the new show. I'll do my part in spreading the word by posting the schedule to other Internet fora and will host a small viewing party.
As for the TV disclaimer, I have the same issue at my own fight night with those that feel they may be mocked internationally for a fight gone wrong or feel an employer's wrath. Some fighters avoid any sessions involving a TV crew. Since my group is small, I talk about the TV footage issue specifically during the mandatory interview preceding their first event.
I'll use this post to ask everyone to purchase the PPV if possible to demonstrate interest in future Dog Brother fight culture shows. Otherwise, you'll have to watch fake men on Project Runway, learn every detail of the Kardashians's unimaginably ordinary lives and read Twitters about what Ashton Kutcher ate for breakfast.
-
Congrats Guro Crafty! great exposure, hopefully it will attract more people to the DBs.
As far as privacy - We come to the Gathering to test ourselves, everything else, in the end, is just noise. I understand the fear of being on the wrong side of someone's highlight reel, but try and to remember the reasons you were attracted to the Gathering in the first place.

Congrats Crafty, I always thought the Dog Brothers would someday make a big noise. Now I am sure of it. 8-)

-
I am happy to support the effort, and excited to see the first broadcast!
-
Speaking of the wrong side of a highlight reel, I still remember being the wrong side of Top Dog's power backhand that dropped me and left me eye's spinning which appears in various of our promo clips.
-
Awesome! Cannot wait for Monday, October 18, 2010!!
-
I think it's been clear all along that there was no "privacy" of fighters, it's Marc's show and when you partake in a gathering you give him rights to use your image.
I'm looking forward to seeing the final product.
-
I believe if one had a mention of concern about a privacy issue prior to shooting, they would probably have made accommodations for that person. :-)
-
Actually, no. Not only would be quite impractical for us to keep track of that, but based on the last 22 years there is more than sufficient track record of how we treat people in our use of the footage for people to decide.
-
Good Point.
-
Just a thought on privacy, and fear of looking bad, etc..
I can't remember an instance in any of the instructional DVD's, etc... where fighters have been referred to with their names, its usually something like "black hits no shirt with a caveman", or something along those lines, unless you identify yourself as being "no shirt" or something, it can be hard to tell who's who sometimes.
I also know that I've seen Top Dog commenting on his own fights and referring to himself as yellow, if there was ever a time to "reveal" a fighters identity it would probably be saying "then I hit him with this..." just because its an easier way to communicate rather than referring to yourself in the third person by a pseudonym.
Plus I don't know if it's just me and the people I train with, but people are usually proud, or at least not ashamed of taking their lumps, what's wrong with saying "yeah I got blasted but kept fighting, or yeah I got blasted but fought 3 more times that day", to me thats more impressive than if your just smashing everyone all the time.
My 2 cents.

For the San Francisco Bay Area, Comcast does not list this show in their OnDemand on any schedule I've searched using the DVR. The Comcast Tech Support agent told me that the shows will be shown the day of the event, and confirmed that she found the show. I asked her to search for "Stick Fight", and she replied "Stick Fight Dog". PayPerView (PPV)/OnDemand shows can not be recorded on the Comcast DVR as the box does not allow it. Correct me if someone knows how to configure the DVR to do this.
I am concerned about the accuracy of the show start times. indemand.com lists one set of times, but when the Comcast schedule for my area is accessed, the show is in a different time slot. The Comcast agent stated 7pm for October 18, but the InDemand schedule shows 3pm for the same day. The InDemand schedule lists channels 870-874 for OnDemand while the Comcast agent stated the first run is on channel 301. So, check here on the morning of October 18 as I will post the time for the show I order.
I plan to order the show twice and possibly more, depending on the price, to support DBMA's foray into PayPerView TV.
-
Woof,
Time Warner Cable has it listed as Events on Demand:
#8 "Stick Fights: Dog Bros' Cruel Combat" Dog Brothers presents its legendary stick fighting battles featuring highly skilled, well-trained combatants. Watch these explosive bouts at the highest level of combat. Adult TV-14 runtime 01:01 end date 11/17/2010
P.C.
-
I ordered two playtimes of the show available on my Comcast TV, which I found from the Main Menu -> Search View -> PayPerView Events and will order more when they are shown on the menu. You can record the PPV on a DVR, but I've never done this.
Stick Fights Dog Bros./Combat
$9.99 PayPerView event

Mon 10/18 , Channel 871 PPV, 7-8pm

That is the piece that Original Productions put together with footage from the same day; this clip is what led to the Nat Geo documentary. The PPV in question here is a different project.
-
I see other show dates up until October 29?
Marc, will there be a way to purchase the show as a DVD or even higher quality video file? It doesn't appear to be HD according to the listing, but is it?
-
As far as I know the show is in HD.
I am in Bloomington IL at the moment and will return Tuesday night and will look to answer your other questions later this week.

Fantastic show, Crafty. That has got to be the most unique fighting show I have ever seen. The fights you picked showed fighting skill, and the weave of the narrative between fights emphasized the culture. The use of the RAW/R-1 Gym was fantastic, and that was a strong contributor in distinguishing stick fighting from other professional sports that converge on a ring-type environment. I had a similar excitement watching that show to watching the first few UFCs. This is something the world has not seen before. Keep it raw!
-
AAAAUUUUUUGGHGHGHHHHHH!!!!!
My cable provider doesn't carry this!
I'm trying to arrange a viewing with someone who has Time Warner in a nearby town.
I'm getting frantic about missing it!
-
Crafty,
The show appears to be 480i , the old "standard definition" TV standard. The Comcast Cable box showed an HD download (1080i) on its front panel during the broadcast, but the show appeared to be a stretched version of 480i. When I play the show back from the DVR, the box says that the recording is 480i. If there is an outlet for the HD show, I'm an eager customer.

The PPV show is no longer listed on Comcast. Anyone see it on another network?
Crafty, are you planning to distribute this show on DVD? Comcast's streaming download quality was not very good with lots of video compression artifacts, and it would be fantastic to see this show in broadcast quality.
-
I will check with our sales agent on the deal.

SA: In Demand played the show initially starting approximately 10/15. Marc, I think you posted that schedule. This does not preclude other airings down the line -- we shall have to see -- but this is at PPV's discretion. The show has yet to play on Directv, which probably won't happen for at least several months. It may still have more plays on Avail-TVN, and maybe more on DishNetwork....

SA: I have no idea about the downloading or downloading quality. Actually, I did not know that Comcast was streaming the show, but I am not surprised.
-
Crafty Dog,
I am an eager customer for a quality DVD of the PPV show. The typical Comcast streaming quality is very low, below DVD quality. This is the case for UFC and other pay-per-view events and makes for a disappointing showing of UFC for a party.

Imagine my surprise to discover we are on Direct TV PPV right now!

Crafty Dog, any word if this PPV show will be available on DVD, perhaps from the DBMA store?

Baltic:
Once the shows on the various networks have run, there is a specified time (I'll have to check the contract to see what it is) that we are prevented from selling, then it will become available through the website here.
Thank you for all your help in getting the word out!!!

Is anyone watching this show? It's a unique fighting show that's full of suspense.
The quality of the ATT Uverse broadcast is much better than Comcast. Comcast has crappy PayPerView quality, at least for UFC and Crual Combat.

Woof All:
I am informed that the requisite time has passed and that we may now market directly the DVD of the PPV show of last year on our website. Hard to say exactly how long this will take to actualize, but know that the process is underway.

Looking forward to this. The Comcast PPV quality for SD broadcasts is abysmal, so I'm looking to watch this is full glory on DVD.
-
Indeed. The Gathering we decided to use was the one shot by Original Productions for what became the trailer that landed the deal with National Geographic, so the production values of the footage are first class.

I can't wait for the DVD. I didn't get to see it when it was on PPV, so I am looking forward to buying it.
-
It turns out our master has a glitch in it and so we need to create a new one. Time frame? Unknown.
-
Crafty, would you be willing to sell a higher resolution file split to several data DVDs or one data BluRay for a higher price? DVDs and their lower data rates are showing their age, and I'd prefer to have something that will look better on my larger TV.
-
You are going way over my head technologically Baltic Dog. Please email me at info@dogbrothers.com -- This will go to Cindy as well as me.
I return to LA on Wednesday.
-
Any update on the dvd?
-
Yes.
The first master we received had a technical glitch in it and we had to wait a while to get a replacement.
We now have it and have sent it to the dupe house and now are waiting to receive our order.
-
Let me know when it's available for sale. I'm a rabid customer.
-
Arrggghhh.
Turns out what we sent them was not HD and we had to go through a song and dance routine to get an HD master. Now we have it and it should be going to the dupe house on Monday.
-
Woof Crafty,
DVDs are not HD. Blurays are HD. Are you selling a Bluray? Is the company expecting something better than DVD-quality? If you have any emails with such technical details, please forward them to me if you are not satisfied with the answers from your production company. I'll help out.
-
Much appreciated Baltic Dog. Our own Night Owl was given the footage in question and it is he who has produced the master we are sounding now so I have complete confidence in what has been done.
