I noticed during some recent knife dueling training that I had a lot more gas in my tank than I expected. I attribute it to doing burpees.
-
Another good one is the dumbbells thruster:

Amen ... I mean ... Woof to thrusters! My strength coach "Kettlebell Ken" Black showed me KB variant for thrusters (also works with dumbbells) and I passed it on to a couple of friends who felt like they had hit a plateau in their cardio. Thrusters kicked their ass.

Burpees are great. Combined with jumprope you have a nice intense exercise set that takes you to a higher level of conditioning.
I do 50 to 60 in 2 minutes. Can anyone tell me if that is a good pace?

when i was in the Corps i always dreaded the "face half left" by my DI.we would do bends and mothers in the sand pit.i still hate those things.

Burpees suck
Here's some fun workout w/Burpees and Thrusters:
5 rounds for time:
20 step barbell overhead walking lunges
21 Burpees
or:
21, 15, 9 reps:
Thruster, 45 to 95lb barbell
Pullups
or:
75-100 burpees for time

Yikes! A burpee every two seconds? Yeah, that's a good pace...
For comparison, this 44-year old does 100 burpees in around 7 minutes.
It's been said that burpees are what Satan does for exercise. I concur; but there's nothing better for the cardio.

In one of the Warrior Talk newsletters, if I remember correctly, Gabe Suarez gave the 30 minute burpee challenge.
I'm not sure if he meant regular burpees or adding the jump and pushup too. Either way, sounds pretty exhausting!

Good to know, thank you. :-D

I guess I'm confused :?
I thought that a Burpee, by definition, included a full pushup and a jump... but a quick Google Image search turns up the CrossFit definition:
So, I stand corrected. But for the purposes of the WarriorTalk forums (if CWS says it, it must be true!), a True Burpee should include a pushup and jump.
-
what's in that sequence is what's known to me as sqaut thrust. a burpee, to my knowledge, DOES include a push-up and a jump to be counted as one rep.

Now I'm confused :-o
When I first looked up burpees online, people talked about what you are calling the squat thrust. Many descriptions said that for added intensity, add the push up and jump. Oh who knows.
So, I guess I've been doing squat thrusts.

I love squat thrust. Right after I do them I had in a set of Get ups and that will get your heart beating, Blood flowing and sweat dripping faster then any Burpee.

Same for me... so for the purposes of DBMA: "THOU SHALT INCLUDE A PUSHUP AND A JUMP IN YOUR BURPEES"
Mwuhahahaha (evil laugh).

Yup.
Ironically the burpee was mentioned in last Sunday's NY Times as possibly "the best single exercise."
-
Coincidentally enough, we were discussing a closely related question on the DBMA Ass'n forum this week: "What is the best single exercise?"
My nominee was Sex:
*Testosterone production
*Hips and glutes-- range of motion, coordination, and strength
*other muscles depend on which position(s) used
*aerobic
*anaerobic
*reduces blood pressure
*promotes restful sleep
*highly motivating
