Grateful for...having an off day, feeling a little negative, and I was tempted to write, "I'm not grateful for sh&%", and that's not true.

Yesterday, my father had some cells scraped out of his bladder, and there had been worry he was going to lose a kidney. The kidney looks great and will stay, and while we wait to hear about the nature of the cells, the doctor said everything looked better than expected, and is already mostly sure it's not cancer. I'm grateful for that.

Keith,

In my experience, the fencing masks being used today offer a little more protection that the straight mesh helmets that seem to have been in vogue early in the history of the DB. If this seems contrary to the spirit of DBMA, the hand protection seems to be inversely proportioned to the head protection. I fight in a pair of leather work gloves that I purchased at a hardware store. As far as gloves go, pick something lighter than hockey gloves. Kaju has posted many fine links for you to explore for gear.

This week, for the first time in a while, I have been having the feeling of "just getting by" in a few life areas. First, I'm grateful to have "gotten by". Second, I'm grateful to be able to recognize that I need to work harder to do more than just "get by".

My voice is pretty much gone from teaching last week, and a little family cold that keeps lingering. I'm at work today, letting my students read and make progress on their own. I'm grateful for a day that can be productive, but a little more quiet than usual.

We missed you, Guide!

It sounds like a great day, and I'm sorry to have missed it! This is my last year of coursework on this degree, so this shouldn't happen again. I'm hoping the spring Tribal Gathering will still be in April, because I have no graduate seminars that month. I really thought my professors were going to let me out for a few hours to play!

c) Guide Dog-- at the moment it appears he will be unable to fight, but we leave his name on the list anyway

I have an all-day seminar for graduate school on the 20th, and I didn't receive word that I wouldn't be allowed to leave for a few hours from my professors until a few days ago. This is the first Gathering I've had to miss since I started fighting with DBMA, and I'm very bummed. Good luck to all the fighters, and remember: when in doubt, agree to more fights!

Guro C: Thank you for posing that. Oliver Stone has some films that really work for me ("JFK", "Any Given Sunday", "Natural Born Killers") and some films that don't work as well for me ("U-turn", "W."), but that man has a very unique style, and usually his movies are something to talk about, even if they don't work for you. I happen to love AGS. I think the whole film is interesting, and that's a pretty darn good cast!

Howie, and Tom: Thank you both for the kind words! Much appreciated.

Grateful for a nice evening spent swimming with family.

I am on Pacific Standard Time. In three hours, when my clock hits midnight, it's July 6th, and I turn 31.

I'm grateful for having a very full life, and for having been supported in what I have been able to do in my 31 years.
I'm grateful or having survived my more self-destructive years, and enjoying the new peace in my life.
I'm grateful for my wife and son (and daughter on the way).
I'm grateful for these boards, DBMA, and the great people I have met through the organization.

My wife and I have a little girl on the way, and she is due in late August. Otherwise, we would make this event into a family vacation. I hope everyone has a great time, and that this camp happens again!
