A lot of good things going on in that clip. The hand fighting for the gun shows some excellent instinctual techniques.

Speaking only as a civilian Monday morning quarterback:
Respect for her courage in assaying the arrest herself.
Especially in view of the size and strenght disparity I thought that she did not do a good job of getting him spread on the car. His feet should have been far enough from the car that his hands would be weight bearing and his feet should have been further spread. Instead of standing behind him, she stands to his side. There is even a moment at which she places both her hands behind her while he looks at her!
As for gun retention technique, instinctive or not, I couldn't tell because of how the footage was edited.
The BG was succeeding in turning the gun on her when the unorganized militia man saved her. Nice assist on the control for the cuffing from the large woman :-D

technically this is a slide show, but still interesting. its the follow up story from yesterday. the intoduction piece, of a guy who was jumped on a train in Leipzig.
basically, "Daniel R." asked 3 men to put out a cigarette and they, said,,,no. the guy had been unemployed 4 quite a while and was on his way home from work. i read it pretty fast and I'm not sure if he worked rail line or not.either way tough day @ work.
the story yesterday, referenced 2 other recent attacks, both with knives. in each case the attackers were not provoked by much more than in the Leipzig case.

A few years ago there was a website around that was devouted to Shastar Vidiya which supposedly was the martial forefather to the more sport-like Gatka. Unfortunately I don't think the site is up anymore. too bad because it had a lot of videos on it and I could see direct relations between it and other SEA martial arts, specifically certain styles of Pentjak Silat but also some very Filipino looking techniques.
Very interesting stuff indeed.
-
Just got forwarded this: http://www.fightfreeview.com
Quite interesting. Anyone know of this guy?
These shearing techniques are found quite alot in the "internal arts", though I'm sure they occur in other systems aswell. Clip #2 (found on the left of the page) with the 'spiral' leg strike is classic Bagua.

forward it back to wherever it came from. pretty disappointing to watch it sober. just got funny after a few pints.
-
I started out watching this with the same reaction as you guys, and then I got to just watching the 'training partners" fall over, again and again. I reckon they did a pretty good acting job, so then I started wondering whether there could be something to it....?
I know you can effect the spine and nervous system by shocking it, like an internal whiplash, using 2 quick strikes in opposing directions, though i've never seen or felt anything as dramatic as in the clips, generally just a momentary freezing point to set up the next strike or whatever.
The knee strike clip is no mystery, just breaking the structure high low.

I was a judge at UFC 10-- the night Frye lost his title to Mark Coleman. It was still a tournament back then and in an earlier fight Frye was on top and really thumping his opponent. I was close enough to hear him say "You don't have to keep on" (meaning taking this beating) and the other man answered "Yes I do" and the fight continued.

Guided Chaos
I came across this group a few weeks ago in my constant perusal of the net for martial arts things.
http://attackproof.com/watch-VIDEO-CLIPS-of-KCD-self-defense-training.html (http://attackproof.com/watch-VIDEO-CLIPS-of-KCD-self-defense-training.html)
When I first found them I saw a video clip without any introduction. My initial response was ?????Combat Capoiera!!!
The groundwork looks a bit bizarre. Then the group has turned up in the latest Black Belt Magazine issue. They have a following of law enforcement people, and the source of the method derives from military training, native american fighting, and other things.
In the Blackbelt article they talk about teaching balance, sensitivity, looseness and flow. They want to avoid body to body grappling and a lot of their groundwork is about evading grappling as much as possible.
Have you heard of this and what do you think?
-
"Attack proof" seems quite silly in application.
-
Yeah. That was absolutely my initial response as well. When I see things like this, I try to look past some of what you might call "a bit odd" to see if there is some point that is worth looking into. In this case, when I watched the videos I was thinking of the multiple stab wound victims that tended to happen during the knife fighting when people went to the ground at the spring gathering? So whats the alternative to getting stuck on the ground (literally in this case)? What if you end up down and you KNOW someone has a knife? When I thought about it like that I started to wonder about this a little more seriously. I dunno.
Cheers!

It is an eye opener. I would like to have seen what led up to it that made the driver get out, maybe bumped him with the car?
By the way the knifer adjusts his grip it appears that the knife is small. He definitely charged the guy. Lots of left sided body hits.
The cab driver is in a tought spot due to the other guys reach being able to create striking distance.
A clothing grab is tough to deal with...trying to release the grip, move, maybe counter...
A bunch of things to think about here.

Wikipedia expands a little:-
"The founders of Sambo were Vasili Oshchepkov (who died during the political purges of 1937 for refusing to deny his education in judo under its founder Kano Jigoro) and Viktor Spiridonov. They independently developed two different styles, both with the same name. Spirdonov's style was a soft, aikido-like system developed after he was maimed during the First World War.[1] Anatoly Kharlampiev, a student of Victor Spirdonov, is often officially recognized as the founder of Sport Sambo".

Not necessarily a video but it does have an effect on those in the UK:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://slashdot.org/ (http://slashdot.org/)
Your Rights Online: YouTube Bans Gun and Knife Videos In the UK
Posted by timothy on Sunday September 21, @01:50AM
from the long-chain-of-abuses-and-usurpations dept.
Censorship
PatPending writes with a depressing excerpt from the UK's Metro: "The Google-owned video-sharing site YouTube has decided to introduce the ban [on weapons-related videos] for the UK only amid widespread unease about the increase in knife crime in the country. 'We recognise that there has been particular concern over videos in the UK that involve showing weapons with the aim of intimidation, and this is one of the areas we are addressing,' a YouTube spokesperson said. 'I would like to see other internet service providers follow suit to reinforce our message that violence will not be tolerated either on the internet or in the real world,' she said."
-
Like most Americans, I feel a special affinity for/bond with the British-- so much of the best of America we inherited from them--, but on several fronts (the response to Islamic Fascism, the hostility to self-defense, the Orwellian supervision, the PC nanny state and its intimidation of common sense leave one wondering where the heck they are headed.
-
I agree with all your points, but Google is an American Company. Blame us too; that they/we would succumb to this type of censorship is wrong.
-
The Ilustrisimo people have been putting up some good stuff on YouTube lately. Good stuff. I been reading about Antonio Ilustrisimo for years, and to finally get to see him move is awesome. He really lives up the reputation I've been reading about for years. There is even a clip of John Lacoste thats really good. I've never seen any footage of Floro Villabrille. Is there any available. If there is put it on tape, I'd buy that for sure.
-
Woof TD:
There's a brief bit of footage of GM Villabrille on our "The Grandfathers Speak" which Guro Inosanto authorized me to use, likewise footage of Manong LaCoste and several other GMs. http://www.dogbrothers.com/pages/articles_wheredoibegin.html
Do you have URLs for the footage you have seen?

-
Just type Ilustrisimo on Youtube and you will be directed to the videos. They are really good. I believe they are posted by Christopher Ricketts. Plenty old footage from 89'. Topher and Sulite playing. Topher getting whooped by Ilustrisimo sparring. Topher and Antonio Diego being instructed by Ilustrisimo. Early 80's kind of footage.
-
I would have loved to see Floro Villabrille walk on that circle. What's it called Tiota. Man I heard he was amazing.

Here is the youtube posted description about the video your about to see.
Portuguese soldiers learn "Jogo do Pau" in order to use the rifle as a stick and to use the bayonet.
It is a very ancient Portuguese martial art.
It is recognized internationally as the most advanced martial art using sticks.
Can be used a very long stick or a short one.
Translated to English it is "stickfighting".
Translated literally to English the Portuguese the word "jogar" means "throwing" or "striking"; or "handling" which is actually the most accurate translation. And the word "pau" means "stick".
This is big box with a staff that I do. I saw this and about s#!T an eggroll. Talk about time machine stuff.

Has anyone been watching this season of The Ultimate Fighter? Phillippe Nover is the favorite to win the 155 lb final this weekend. I've attached a cool video clip of him warming up for the fight this weekend off the UFC website. In addition to being an MMA figther, his training roots are FMA, JKD, and Thai Boxing. I've watched his fights this season and have been very impressed by his use of footwork and angles. He looks to be a future star in the sport.

http://www.phillipenover.com/index2.html
Also, I've been training at AZ Combat Sports a few nights a week. Ryan Bader is in tomorrow's final in the 205 lb class. He's a good kid, very humble. It's a pretty solid camp, Jamie Varner (WEC 155lb champ), CB Dolloway (last season's TUF and fighting on UFC 92 card), Carlos Condit (WEC 170lb champ), Matt Riddle, Ray and Steve Steinbess, Jessee Forbes, Aaron Simpson, and a great group of other guys. It's strictly an MMA gym however I've finally found another guy to train with out here for blade and stick training.
I hope everyone is doing well!
-
AZCS is an awesome mma gym to work out at. is Gustavo Dantas still apart of that team?
-
Yes, Gustavo is the BJJ coach. I however have only participated in the stand up classes. The thing I'm most impressed by is how down to earth and humble the guys in the gym are. Do you happen to train there rio? If so and you're aware of the local scene, are there any DBMA players out here?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ieWrWLjii0
Nice find, I had a LCpl in my Platoon that used a sling shot in Iraq. Along one of our routes we would pass these teenage kids that did not like us much. They would gesture, yell and probably worked as a distraction to the elders up to no good. This LCpl would take his sling shot up in the gun terrot and shoot pebbles at em... One time he shot some 800mg Motrin at em, when I asked him why he was shooting the vitamin "M" at em, he said, "Cause they don't know it yet, but in about a half hour they're gonna have a real bad headache". We were scheduled to drop some bombs on an area near them later that day. :-o

Most evidence seems to suggest that Brazilian dance-fighting isn't very effective in an actual MMA match. But the doubters were proved wrong on Saturday night, as a Capoeira practitioner named Marcus "Lelo" Aurelio (not to be confused with Maximus) scored one of the most epic knockout-kicks in history at a North American Challenge event in North Vancouver. Aurelio's opponent Keegan Marshall was clearly unprepared for the whirling-dervish routine, and let his hands drop at juuuuuust the wrong moment; the devastation comes at the vid's 0:31 mark. After checking to see if Marshall is still alive (he was), Aurelio commemorates the moment with a victory dance that lasts about as long as the fight itself. Enjoy it, buddy — these kinds of things don't happen very often.

I don't know if this has been posted yet but this was new to me. It is a group of guys at a club called the barracuda. It was a good example of a smaller person using the element of surprise to drop a larger person. They use a strike to the neck with an elbow similar to the dogbrothers empty hand technique. Their fighting skills after the initial blow defiantly leaves something to be desired but if you knock out a person or even daze them you do not need to be a good fighter to hurt someone. It really comes down to knowing your environment and not being is that situation.

Cool clips 8-) :-D
I especially liked the first one with steel blades. It's nice to see sparring where the blade is respected. Of course there were some 'double deaths' but the behavior of the participants - evasion and blocking - seemed much more realistic than much that is out there, of any style.
Thanks for posting!
-
Since we don't see any real blade fighting in life or on video, realism is only left to the imagination. While it's critical to respect the blade, the same situation requires real strikes, which neither of these players are doing, either.
-
You don't think the guys, especially in the first clip, are using real strikes? Interesting.

At first I was wondering if the professor had a flail left arm...presumably from a prior live blade match. At 3:00 he does a little shuck with his left hand to allow a spinning slash, but overall looked like a sabre fencing variant. I was disappointed that the video ended when big blue showed. I wanted him and the professor to give us a full speed demo.

New show on Discovery called The Colony.
http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/the-colony-the-experiment-begins.html (http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/the-colony-the-experiment-begins.html)
A new program on The Discovery Channel, The Colony is a reality TV show that puts several people in a simulated post-apocalyptic environment. The official website describes the show this way:
What would you do in the wake of a global catastrophe? How would you find food? Water? Shelter?
The Colony is a controlled experiment to see exactly what it would take to survive and rebuild under these circumstances. For 10 weeks, a group of 10 volunteers, whose backgrounds and expertise represent a cross-section of modern society, are isolated in an urban environment outside Los Angeles and tasked with creating a livable society.
With no electricity from the grid, no running water and no communication with the outside world, all the volunteers have to work with are their skills and whatever tools and supplies they can scavenge from their surroundings.
Episode One focused on establishing the setting, as well as introducing the cast. The "survivors" include a martial artist, a doctor, and a computer engineer, among others. So far, they've had to scavenge for supplies at a destroyed shopping mall, defend their stash from marauders, find shelter, and find water. As we all know, water is one of the most important things any living creature needs to survive, and the nearby L.A. river's water wasn't at all safe to drink. Not until computer engineer John Cohn rigged a filtration system using alternating layers of sand and charcoal in a plastic trash can. From there, the survivors were able to boil the filtered water, making it potable.
When the show was in production, Paladin Press provided the producers with a good supply of books dealing with survival topics. One, Ragnar's Urban Survival: A Hard-Times Guide to Staying Alive in the City by Ragnar Benson, has a chapter specifically about finding, collecting, storing, and purifying water in an urban environment once society has collapsed. It includes a diagram of a sand filter that anyone can make, not at all unlike John's construction, as well as how to purify water with bleach. Being prepared doesn't mean waiting until a disaster has already happened to act: it's about having a plan, supplies, and the knowledge to get yourself and your family out of a jam.
-
I have often found myself thinking about post-apocalyptic scenarios. Where to get water, food, shelter, caring for my family. This show should be interesting.

Do I see you in there Kaju Dog?
Sorry No. Just popped this in because I like the way Sijo does his bit in the beginning from his seat. :)
This is GM Angel Garcia's DVD series.
Angel Garcia was born in Spain on August 26, 1956. Angel began his Kajukenbo training in the 70's under the instruction of Sifu Ed Shepard. Shepard was a black belt from the Al Reyes line who was assigned to Spain while in the U.S. Air Force. Garcia acheived the rank of black belt before Shepard was transferred back to the states.
When Sifu Shepard died in a car accident, Garcia lost his only contact with Kajukenbo for many years. (He was the only Kajukenbo black belt in Spain).
In the 80s, when Panther Productions released their Kajukenbo tape series with Professor Gary Forbach, Garcia immediately bought them. At the end of the tapes was contact information for Prof. Forbach. Angel contacted Prof. Forbach and re-established the connection between himself and the Kajukenbo Ohana.
Over the years Prof. Garcia has made many trips to the United States to train and visit with Prof. Forbach, Sijo Emperado, and the late Prof. Halbuna.
Besides his Kajukenbo training, Angel has studied other arts, and is known for his strong jujitsu techniques.
Angel has written 2 books on Kajukenbo, and starred in many videos on Kajukenbo.
He is the European director for the K.S.D.I. and has established 29 schools in Spain, France, Switzerland, Monaco, and Belgium.

Parkour! That stuff is showing up in the new James Bond movies. That kind of extreme mobility might explain how we outlasted the lions, tigers, and bears until we developed our tools. Something I would love to learn- if i was younger as well.

really? thats the part of louisiana i lived for most of my life. for those of you who dont know jefferson parish is literally across the river from new orleans. if any of you have watched spike lee's documentary on hurricane katrina theres a part when various people were talking about walking across the mississppi bridge to get the westbank where things were more calm/safe. they were summarily told to turn around or they would be shot. this is the place i grew up.
anyhow, id seen the commercial for this ''reality t.v.'' series but had no idea it was in LA much less jefferson parish. ill be sure to watch!

On a more serious note, I felt compelled to post this Vietnam war documentary. I felt that it gave me a deeper understanding of what a soldier goes through in times of war and the lingering affects it can have on the human physique.
Members of my family and some of my best friends are war veterans spanning from WW2 to Afghanistan. I often wondered why they held so much of that experience inside and were reluctant to tell their story.
When I was 18, I registered for the draft. As the years went by, I always had a sense of being blessed for not having to fight in a war. Now at 49 years of age, the chances are slim that I will ever have to experience such a horrible thing. I also think it is shamefull how many of our countries vets are being treated by our government and society. I would incourage young people who may have a glorified view of war, to view this film. I have much respect for the men and women who give so much of themselves in the name of freedom and country. Even if the government were to be misguided, our soldiers should always receive the highest praise and never be disrespected. (Part 6 + 7 are especially insightful)

That is CERTAINLY to be kept in mind!
As are the facts that
a) the people weilding those knives have been training cutting skills for many years- with the same knife most of us could not do the same thing,;
b) those that knife cannot legally be carried in many jurisdictions due to blade length and that most attack knives (speaking only SWAG here) are not as big, as sharp, etc
-
They do pretty massive damage with a lot of their smaller knives too. On the order of your average "buck folder" size. I did post the "attention getter" video, but the sidebar has a whole bunch of their other demos. I remembered a remark you made about lack of respect when sparring with practice knives, and figured this would help with that issue.
Quite frankly I would rather be shot than cut- less trauma in my opinion.
-
Agreed 100% on the trauma potential of knives small too.
I forget if I have mentioned it here on this forum, but the idea to use a hanging piece of meet in what was then a video, was my suggestion to Paul Vunak back in , , , 1985 IIRC.
-
Check out the Natchez Bowie in the More from column. About 3 minutes in they have a kid doing some chopping with it- I guess they wanted to make a point that it is sharpness and not strength doing the cutting..........
I just watched the whole thing, I suggest anyone curious about what a big knife can do watch it too. They use a whole pig carcass, so if you are squeamish you are warned.

For various reasons, the chances are that this stuff is about as irish as a bowl of lucky charms. Although it might have some intrinsic worth in it's own right

Bambi - Care to extrapolate re - 'various reasons' ... Obviously I have no idea what would be authentic or not, just curious what you see?
I do like the material though - changing ranges, switching hands, combinations with kicks, knees and punches .... very enjoyable.
-
For a start, stick fighting is no longer extant in Ireland and hasn't been in living memory to the best of my knowledge. Glenn Doyle claims his family style came over to canada with his grandfather or some such, which to me sounds implausible. Originally he claimed that his father/grandfathers' style was called "usice beatha bata rince " which sounds like someone looked up the words "whiskey", "stick" and "dance" in an irish dictionary and literally stuck them together. It appears that he has since changed the name to "rince an bheata usice bheatha" which is grammatically correct at least even if it's kinda amusing (I mean c'mon, not only did his family have a stick fighting style but they happened to name it after two of Ireland's most well known cultural exports?). Everything about it set's my spidey sense's off.
There's a guy called Hurley who started this shillelagh renaissance off, he bases his stuff on period accounts of stick fights I believe. I'm not sure how accurate his sources are but at least he's a straight up WMA recreationist.
-
Thanks for the info, Bambi - though I kinda like the sound of 'whiskey stick dancing' :-D

this kind of irish stick fighting is much more entertaining, more common weapon than a shillelagh too

some of that I remember from SCA, invented from doing rather than any reference as far as I know. I later became familiar with at least one of those names mentioned, although I haven't done much more than look at the pretty pictures. SCA is sword and shield stuff, so some of those simple disarms wher the hand comes out for a pivot work with a shield.
The old movie "Excalibur" with the shiny plate armor, had some of these moves too, I wonder.........

Cut and pasted from above link:
...
Thursday night, the fireworks erupted in section 187, near the top row of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
During the eighth game of the first set between No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic and Philipp Petzschner, a fight broke out in the nosebleeds.
Arnold Florendo, 37, of Great Neck, L.I., caught the fracas with a video camera, which he turned over to police.
Florendo told the Daily News that a woman slapped a younger man, who in turn pushed an elderly man down the stairs. The elderly gentleman, who was wearing a Mets cap, was seen in a wheelchair on the concourse being questioned by a police officer.
The officer instructed the man to "get checked out."
The woman, who Florendo believed was the daughter of the elderly gentleman, and the younger man were both taken away in handcuffs by NYPD officers.
The USTA did not release any names. Calls to the 110th Precinct, where it is believed the two are in custody, were not returned.

better angle
SG's note: I cannot play the volume too loud while at work, not sure if we can hear what words were exchanged, but apparently the young man used a lot of F-bombs. The weather yesterday in NYC was 90 degrees Fahrenheit or so (30 or so Celsius) and perhaps alcohol was consumed.
-
An amusing study in human interaction. Any analysis?
-
An amusing study in human interaction. Any analysis?
I was hoping others chime in. Because I'm at work, I cannot have the volume that loud. Want to hear what was said and the tone/volume it was said.
My preliminary analysis/guesses as to what sparked the confrontation without further info of the possible interactions prior to video could be :
1) Grandpa and Daughter have to pass Young Man to get to their seats. Grandpa and Daughter having hard time going through Young Man who may not have gotten up to facilitate G & D's crossing.
2) Or G & D kicked/stepped on YM's feet.
3) YM had some beer in his system and may be a little buzzed.
4) The weather probably didn't help as it was muggy, hot and humid and people's tolerance levels were lowered.
-
Work is slow here so I tried to type a transcript of what I could hear.
YM- I can talk all I want I f@*king paid my ticket go sit down.
Crowd- security, you don't need to cuse.
YM-I don't give a f**k what anyone wants.I got a lot of money on the game and I'm going to pay (can't make out exactly what he says after this).
YM to G-You got her getting in my face sit the f**k Down.
YM- I can take 20 of those (He was pointing @ his face so I assume G threated to punch him in the face)
YM-Get me out of here? What are you going to do? Evicted for what? Evicted for what? I'm not talkin during the points. Am I talking during the points? I'm not talking during the points.Get the f**k out of here.
-

I wrote Grandpa and Daughter, meant Father and Daughter.
Woof RyanA:

-
Besides nosebleed section, you can see the top of the stadium, this is a very early round in the tournament, but still an expensive sports ticket and people deserve a little peace and quiet to try to experience it from so far away. The view of the match is far better in your living room. Looked to me like the younger guy was admittedly disruptive and totally to blame, up until the physical stuff started. Even when she slapped him he only laughed at her. He said something else provocative as he sat down but it looked like the older guy was already planning to step in on him.
Crowd asked a good question, 'where is security?' They were also saying throw the bum out meaning for sure the young guy.
I was guessing the young guy gets a disorderly conduct, the woman a 3rd or 5th degree assault - a slap charge, and the older guy a serious charge for going in to hurt him. NY Post coverage says otherwise: "“It’s a hot night in New York. Things happen,” Chris Widmaier,a US Tennis Association spokesman said of the tussle, which resulted in no arrests.
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/queens/fight_night_at_the_open_QlwSKhd4YInp9hGBdZ7m0K
I should add that if they are still looking at film maybe they will still issue a citation or 2.
-----
Djokovic went on to beat Petzschner 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
-
In the second clip at 00:090 she hits him with a right slap to the face. I believe that is what he is referencing when he says "I can take 20 of those."
-
What was he saying that needed a slap? What did he do that warranted a body slam? Talk is Talk the young guy was apparently do a lot of talking, but trying to mind his business- he was trying to just sit and watch the game apparently. Grey hair and the girl both got physical.......... someone being an a$$ is not illegal or license to start beating on someone.
F-bombs and bad language do not look good, but what triggered the verbal exchange?
-
The impression I got was that he probably had been loudly commenting on the game (perhaps with vulgarities?) whereas tennis crowd etiquette tends to be rather quiet. The fact that not one but two phone cameras were focused on the exchange indicates that things had been building for a while , , ,
-
Agreed. The woman should be evicted for the slap, and the older man for his failed assault. While he was likely responsible for the bad will, the young man was not shown to assault anyone. If the young man had done to either what had been done to him, he would have been treated much more harshly.

youtube has a new beta search tool....I found this when I was playing around with it:

Teaser: In 1935 Richard Halliburton photographed guys in the mountains in Georgia wearing chain mail and practicing a medieval martial art.
From wikipedia: "There has been a hypothesis, coming from the locals and descriptions by Russian serviceman and ethnographer Arnold Zisserman who spent 25 years (1842-67) during Russian expansion in the Caucasus (see Georgia within the Russian Empire), that these Georgian highlanders were descendants of the last European Crusaders because their folk culture – the material, social, and religious practices – greatly resembled those of the Crusaders.[3] American traveler Richard Halliburton (1900-1939) saw and recorded the customs of the Khevsur tribe in 1935.[4] Khevsurs are mentioned in Greek, Roman and Georgian sources before the formation of European crusades ( See History of Georgia and Georgian People), and the pure European origin of Khevsurs is not supported by most modern scholars. However, some form of settlement of Crusaders in these areas is possible, as they are mentioned in several manuscripts of the time as participants of several battles against the Muslims in Georgia (100 "Frankish" Crusaders participated in King David's army in the Battle of Didgori), and the fact that some passed through here after the fall of the Holy Land."
The creator of the video is a fellow traveled to the area to meet with the last remaining practitioners of this art, three 90 year old men.
Pretty Cool.

Optical Illusions by Kokichi Sugihara
http://www.npr.org/blogs/krulwich/2011/01/19/133017843/your-lying-eyes-can-this-be-happening
You have two eyes.
Each eye sees a slightly different world. (Put a finger in front of your face, switch from one eye open to the other and that finger will shift, just a little bit.) But rather than walk around all day seeing in double vision, your brain pulls the world back into one-ness.
Brains decide what we see. Kokichi Sugihara knows this better than anyone. He makes videos that trick your brain into seeing things that you know, you absolutely know, can't happen.

thanks Tim, good link. Although, the old man accepted the bet and all, I think that this total materialisation of "truth" lately, especially since the mma and nhb has taken off in martial arts, is just sad.
The logic of "testing" like this seems completely flawed to me. You take some guys art, take it out of its context and put it in context where YOUR art is proven to work the best.
Think of it as a sumo wrestler loosing in MMA. Does this prove that mma is the ultimate contact sport ? Not at all, it means that in that specific set of conditions, sumo might be insufficient in some parts of the endeavor. Switch the positions, and take the mma guy to the dohyo. Does it mean that sumo is the ultimate full contact sport ? Not at all, it means that in that specific set of conditions, MMA might be insufficient in some parts of the endeavor.

i agree, also how i see this clip of the master is that this situation shows that with unwilling partners or with people that are under the influence of a figure head his "magic" is less or not effective at all. To me it's like being a survival instructor, i am telling all these people how good i am and how good they all are and could be. How we can all hunt and trap our own food, we practice with our weapons and are really accurate. Then someone bets us to go out and do it, where before we never actually killed anything. And what happens, we don't kill anything. And I could say it was out of context. Sure it was, we actually tried to do what we said we were training for. I see it similiarly here, I imagine some of his students expected to see him flip flop this uncooperating guy around like them.
Do we know if this show was trying to prove who has the ultimate full contact sport? And if we took this mma guy to where the master tosses his students around would he be tossed around like a doll? I bet he would if he went to a sumo dohyo, probably because the sumos know what they are doing.
I see the clip more as a view into reality, not so much as to further disgrace someone as worthless.

I thought the citizen with the broom had good intentions but because one picks up a broom, doesn't mean they know how to use it.
Same with the guy breaking the staff in two. Just because one has two sticks in the hand doesn't mean one knows how to use it.
The cops could use a little forehand redondo training for sure

Hi all,
I did a search for "Navy Seal Las Vegas" and found nothing. This is a news report featuring surveillance footage of a Navy SEAL in LAs Vegas attacking innocent people with a pipe in March of 2010. His trial is coming up in August. I offer it as it has some dramatic footage of the pipe assaults in various context. Innocents randomly attacked (awareness and avoidance) and a plain clothes police officer(s) fighting the man in order to subdue him (knowingly going empty hand against the pipe probably due to the immediacy and close proximity of the situation).

Glad you liked it - this is the site I put up a few weeks back, hoping to attract the occasional new person to our training group.
I plan to add new articles every six weeks or so, on some of the lesser-known European Dog Brothers training groups. The first such article should be out within the next few days (for a preview, see below). This will eventually be expanded to cover non-European (mostly US) groups. If you still have a training group, I'd be interested in doing an article on that. :-D
About the photos - those of the 2011 Euro Gathering I got from other European tribe members, who, I believe got them from Guro Lonely. Photos from pre-2011 Euro Gatherings, are made available to European tribe member through Guro Lonely.
The fellow with the purple sarong (there was a baseball in that) is Heiko "Crossover Dog" Zauske from Germany. He fought at a US Gathering when several Germans visited, a year or two ago, so you may have met him.

http://www.cagepotato.com/street-fight-of-the-day-woman-beating-a-hole-gets-tapped-out-twice-by-good-samaritan/
We’re going to come right out and say it: By no means should you watch this entire video. We know that your time is precious, Potato Nation, as you are all, like us, the head honchos of your respective trades. But on the off chance that any of you have had a shit day and are in need of a pick-me-up, maybe, just maybe, you’ll get some enjoyment out of seeing a little street justice. This video, shot by one of the many onlookers, captures Devin Crime (or as the crowd referred to him “white boy”), a BJJ purple belt and Judo brown belt, coming to the aid of a woman who was apparently being struck by the Floyd Mayweather fan doing battle with Devin in said video. And by doing battle, we mean being choked until he taps like a little bitch on two separate occasions.
The video begins after this first takedown has already been landed, and even though Devin displays some Zen-like tranquility when dealing with the a-hole in question, he gets sucker punched for his troubles (:48). Devin responds with a hailstorm of GnP that would make Tito Ortiz turn green with envy, bloodying up his foe before possibly kissing him on the cheek (?) at the 1:13 mark. After some lay and pray, he patiently locks in the fight-ending choke with just over two minutes remaining in the first round.
