Is the plan to replicate the anniversary gathering we had last year on an annual basis?  Three days, DB Corral, etc?

IMHO AA almost lost last night.  His BJJ is non-existant.  Barnett and Fedor would run through AA.  Also, how about freaking Nelson and Arlovski getting stood back up when Nelson was in side control with a submission!  WTF!!!

On the topic of Kimbo, I'm pretty sure that fight was supposed to be fixed.  A fairly important person for this event was trying to get the ref to jump in and call Seth for hitting Kimbo in the back of the head:

He says "he's hitting him in the back of the head" then points to the back of his head. . . . interesting?!

Last night was a great night for sparring.  We had some out of town guys come in and spar who had a lot of experience, almost all of the fighters that sparred my guys were pro, a few had fought in the UFC, Elite XC and a few other big name shows.  In any event, the guy that my Thaiboxer went against was 18-2 as a pro I believe.  My Thaiboxer has learned the KT matrix inside and out and does an excellent job of playing it while sparring.  I've always been extremely against the flat footed "Tim Silvia" approach to stand up and seeing my guys successful brings a smile to my face.  Ajarn Chai gave me the cruel idea to tape push pins "tacks" to the heels of the feet to make people stay on their toes.  I have yet to try it but the concept states how important it is to Chai so I myself make sure my students stay "tall" on the balls of the feet.  I think this lends very well to the footwork matrix that Crafty has shared with us. "What stands still, grows roots, gets chopped down."

I was first introduced to this matrix in late '03 / early '04 by Crafty and immediately saw the relevance in it.  I went back to the gym to spar all the guys and kept it quiet for some time while I had immense success using it.  It amazed me of how "top secret" this material actually was.  Even many top fighters NOW are not using this structure.  Those who are have great success.  After a while I decided to start sharing the KT matrix with my guys and they have more than ran with the material.  This was way before the DVD even came out so I had many people raising an eyebrow when I shared it with them.  My one boxer who I used to "one up" now beats me at my own game!  In any event, the Thaiboxer you watched Jon is going to be fighting on the 18th and we plan on using this structure.  I'll make sure to post the video.

Make sure to keep the mats clean, and wash your clothes.  Most importantly, if someone has something (ringworm or anything else) KEEP THEM OFF THE MAT.  I don't know how many times I've seen guys tape over ringworm and want to continue to train.  Nobody likes to miss out on training, but you need to make sure you don't contaminate your whole gym.

Personally, I scrub my body with anti-fungal shampoo after I train.  Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Damn dude, people tape over ringworm and just keep going? WTF is wrong with them? Has someone talked some sense into these people?

We have the stinky guys in our gym. I think it happens everywhere. I wonder sometimes how you can be lazy enough to skip washing your gear, but have the motivation to come and train regularly? I guess it is one of lifes little mysteries?

I actively call out our stinky dudes for the health of the gym.  I tell them to go take a shower and wash their clothes/gear before I work with them.  I won't spar or roll with anyone that stinks.  I might be a pansy to some, but then again, I don't have any skin diseases.

Not sure if you were there Jon but about a month ago I brought in some old t-shirts to try out collar chokes in and neither t-shirt ripped but the chokes were pretty easy to get.  I would assume coats would be even easier to choke with and harder to rip.  I'm looking forward to pulling mine out btw, bring on the cold!

I'm grateful to have spent the day with Ajarn Chai in NJ.  I got his opinion on some material that I've been planning for the next Gathering and he tuned it up for me.  Obviously it was Muay Thai based but he gave me some Krabi flavor to add into the mix, HOW COOL!

The dance actually has its roots in being a post victory prair / thank you to the king, family, coaches, etc. that the fighter will be able to fight again without being seriously injured in the fight he just fought.

This however, I find offensive:

Celebration is one thing, like Chuck does.  Or jumping up on the cage.  However, Tito's thing he does, Brock's thing he did, cutting the throat, are all uncalled for.

why is this offensive?? it's pretty funny to me, especially if you get the joke. it's no more & no less than what liddell does after he wins, or when a fighter jumps up on the cage and back flips, or when barnett slashes his throat, etc., etc.

OOOOO!!!!!!!!  I forgot to post about this.  It's a thing that Greg Jackson has all of his fighters doing.  Licking your fingers and tweaking your nipples actually releases hormones in both men and women.  GSP did it too.  Nipple stimulation causes the body to produce the hormone oxytocin. http://www.filly.ca/health/body/sexual_health/Oxytocin.asp

I'm grateful that I'll be getting my Mustang GT back from the police next week.  Here is the back story:

So here’s the deal. About two months ago I took my 1990 Mustang GT to the shop to get it’s annual inspection. I’ve had the car since I was sixteen. In fact, it was my first car. I am now twenty-six and still baby the car daily. I’ve only managed to put 59K on it in the past ten years only driving it when I think the weather is worthy of hitting the pavement with her. Needless to say, I love the car with a passion.

I was expecting the job to take a day or so and for my mechanic to call me back letting me know it was done. Sure enough he called back, but it wasn’t a call to inform me it had passed inspection. Rather it was to give me some horrible news.

The first words out of my mechanic’s mouth were “when did you come and get your car?”

I laughed and asked, "What do you mean? Are you screwing with me?”

He replied with, “Ah no, it’s not here Ryan.”

It was with this news that I found out that my 1990 Mustang GT 25th Anniversary was stolen. Someone had come into my mechanic’s lot, loaded it onto a flat bed and taken her away. I contacted the insurance company, filled out the paperwork, scanned in my years of receipts showing that this car was in impeccable condition and was on my way to getting an insurance check. Something bothered me however, I felt as if it was out there, and would possibly be found. I put off the final steps of finalizing the insurance claim until a few days ago. The last step was to sign over the title to the insurance company, send it to them and they would send me my check. I had the title in the envelope, signed and stamped, ready to go out with the mail the next day. It seemed like one of the longest walks I had ever taken walking to my mail box, putting the title in and raising the outgoing mail flag on the box. It had taken two months but I had finally gotten over the fact that I was never going to see my Mustang again. Instead, I was handing over the title for under half of what I actually put into the far, you gotta love the “blue book” value. In any event, I went to work that night, did my business and came back late, around 1AM. I was winding down getting ready to go to bed when I saw my cell phone light up. Who could possibly be calling me at this time? Without hesitation I realized it must be important so I picked it up. Seeing an out of state number that was not coming up on caller ID alarmed me but I answered it anyways.

“Hello?” I answered

“Mr. Gruhn?” the man said.

“Yes Sir.”

This is Trooper Dillian with the State Police.

O god I thought to myself, what did I get myself into now?!

“Mr. Gruhn, . . . . we found your car.”

My heart pretty much jumped out of my chest! I sprung to my feet and started drilling him for answers. It turns out that this was a multi-state deal with numerous mustangs that were getting chopped up and sold. I half didn’t want to know but I asked, “is my car okay?” He said that it was intact and actually had a good bit of work done to it; headers, paint, etc. However, it wasn’t in the best shape. He informed me that it will be almost a month until I can even see it again because it has to be booked into evidence, finger printed, etc. On top of that, if I really wanted it I would have to drive down to West Virginia to get it. It took no time at all for me to realize that I will actually be reunited with my first real love. A 1990 Mustang GT that I once laid eyes on and said that I would never let it go. It might sound corny but I had planned on getting this car since it came out in 1990 and I was eight years of age. It was a plan to never let go of her.

I can't wait to get it back!

Nut shots

I'm curious as to how some people deal with getting hit in the nuts, the smut footage of guys getting their nuts stepped on, etc.  It also makes me wonder how many people get the accidental shot to the nuts and just take the five minutes because they can, not because it hurts.  I also remember Rog (C-Space Dog) hitting someone in the nuts in a gathering and the other guy not even flinching.  Interesting . . .

Crafty et al,

This weekend our school had a rather successful run in the cage and ring and I'd like to share one of the fights with everyone!  This fighter has trained both left and right lead equal amounts of time and as such, we've explored KT in great detail with an emphasis on Triggonomics "outside footwork."  The clips are rather long but the game plan of staying to the outside allowed us to dominate.  This was a Muay Thai fight with authentic Muay Thai rules allowing the competitors to strike with any of the eight limbs to anywhere on the body.  This means that elbows, knees and kicks to the face were 100% legal.  On top of all of this, it's one of my female fighters!  Take a look!:

(Feel free to fast forward to the rounds)

Thank you Crafty for the material.

In regards to trachia injuries, I had mine crushed pretty bad in a BJJ tournament when I was just starting to do BJJ.  The guy took my back and got the RNC but I kept on peeling his hand off so he went to the Dan Severn.  I felt my trachia touch the back of my neck if that makes sense and the result has been an annoying click when I swallow ever since it happened.

This happened to me after a BJJ tournament a while back when I got RNC'ed Dan Severn Style and felt my trachia inside of my neck touch the back of my neck, . . .weird feeling.  In any event, it still clicks.  Let me know if you get this checked out and what the doc says!
