Martial Arts Topics / DB Gathering June 2005

Dear Martial Artists and friends,

I would just like to thank Guru Mr. Marc and Cindy Denny, the Great Eric Knauss, DB tribe and all who attended and participated at the gathering to allow me to participate in such an exciting event.  This is a great experience for any serious martial artist to take their level of training to this level.  I had the opportunity to match up against Mr. Shannon Mckensie and Mr. Dale "Island Dog" Frank.  Their skills are awesome and I truly enjoyed those moments of exchanges with them.  Those moments in time really made me grow and improve my self development as a martial artist and as a human as well.  I will be looking forward in participating in future gatherings.  Have a great day!

Martial Arts Topics / Cass Magda's 2005 Summer Camp

Dear fellow martial artists and friends,

I have been attending Sifu Cass Magda's Summer Camps ever since and recently the 1st Winter Camp of 2005!  I would have to say these camps are intense emotionally and mentally challenging and well worth the physical training involved.  It is a pleasure to train with so many fine and dedicated martial artists at attendance from many parts of the country and the world.  Just being around with so many talented and positive people is an uplifting experience.  I had the privilege to train with some of Bruce Lee's original backyard students, such as Ted Wong, Pete Jacobs, Bob Bremmer, Richard Bustillo, among others not to mention the second generation students such as Sifu Tim Tackett.  These great men have so much to offer to any martial artist at any level in their training!
The Kali and Silat aspects taught by Sifu Cass Magda at these camps is worth every penny.  I truly found more meaning performing djurus and applications on the cross using kurung and penchar, and helped me even more to refine and improve my skills and understanding of Buka Jalan Silat.  I would have to say sifu Cass Magda with his high quality training methods and knowledge he possesses including with the assistance of his professional staff of dedicated martial artists offers and invaluable  martial art experience for any levels.  I look forward  investing my training time to this year's Summer Camp and beyond.

Dear Mr. RYO9,

For that deep Filipino cultural influence in your training regimine I would highly recommend Guru Eleanor Academia's World Kulintang CD.  It has some of the greatest authentic kulintang music put togehter by the World Kulintang Ensemble from Reseda, California.  Kulintang music is an ancient Filipino gong music from the Philippines.  It is very rythmic and has deep real connections to the martial arts practiced in the Philippines. You can visit her website at WWW.World Kulintang Institute.com or visit  the Magda Institute website.

Peace,

Glenn

Hello fellow martial artists,

I've personally discovered practicing Kali flow drills ( downward and upward figure 8's) with a cooperative training partner improved alot in my own personalized truth in combat.  Not only it helped me in flow it also improved my overall stamina and endurance.

Martial Arts Topics / Non smokers Rule!

Hello Mr. Greenman,

Congratulations on your 5th day!  I thought I'd offer you more support because I know what it felt during those critical few weeks after quitting.  I started to examine cross sectional images (cat scans) of human cadeavors who had a prolonged history of cigarette smoking.  The images I seen were very disturbing.  I didn't realize what smoking can do not only the destruction of your lung alveoli but also  all over your body!  Ever since I willfully quit smoking 11 years ago and after investigating the many terrible things cigaratte smoking can do to the human body and the second hand smoke can do to others I decided to forever maintain peak physical , mental, spiritual fitness.  During the times when I felt after cessation I always thought of this huge gigantic ball pushing up to the top of a mountain...It was a struggle, and I always thought that there were many of them on sight (the urge to smoke) and I thought if I were overcome them through martial arts I would conquer them all for life.  One of my deepest goals is to reach 100 years young and still fight for the good fight.

Best of luck again!

Hello Mr. Greenman,

Great suggestion from Mr. Buzwardo!  I quit cold turkey eleven years ago and never felt better than ever!  It was soon thereafter when I had willfully quit smoking forever  (april 24 will be my 11th year anniversary) I invested some of my hard earned money to buy a sturdy mountain bike and a few months after that joined a healthclub.  I started to jog/run every other day and cycled around the  surrounding local Los Angeles mountains and gave my lungs some treatment.  I felt by doing this and some encouragement amongst some very positive supportive non-smoking people I was able to focus my energy toward an everlasting life long activity including training in martial arts to satisfy that high we used to feel when we inhale that nicotine.  I found through this experience partaking in this kind of cardiovascular activity ( mountain biking, jogging, running, swimming, weight training, martial arts, stick sparring, kickboxing, etc.) I was able to get that high and euphoric feeling much greater than inhaling nicotine.

Best of Luck!

Hey Corey,

Congratulations to you on your promotion!  I wish you all the best of luck
on your endless journey.   Great shots of you fighting ( I don't think I would want to be beneath you!)    I'm sorry that we were not able to pair up at the last rounds...I had helped out a gentleman with a cut ( maybe a raincheck?)

Peace,

Glenn

Thnaks for the cool thought.  It was just my own expression toward my personal liberation...I honestly thought I could of done alot better and I seem to feel the adaptation toward the last round.  There were those little things that always pop the day after.  I'll definitely be more refined for the next gathering.

Peace.

Hello brother Toby,

Thanks for the growth experience with you!  I will always cherish those moments for a lifetime.  You are an awesome warrior and I wish you all the best of luck on your martial training and all endeavors in your life.  I hope you far exceed your own expectations and be the best of all you can be!   Hope to honorably meet up with you again.

There are so many beautiful places in the Philippines, do you mind if I ask which part of the islands you go and which areas would you like to visit?

Peace bro,

Glenn

Woof Guro Marc Denny,

Yes, that is correct.  I fought the gentleman from Italy in the last round of the day. I aoplogize for not remembering his name and the two gentlemen that fought earlier (one with Muay Thai shirt and another whom I paired with knife fighting) I thought they fought very well!  I also fought Mike C-war dog with double sticks, whom I felt is  a very strong fighter and I thank him and the rest of the fine gentlemen for the humbling and positive growth experience.

Peace.

Hello Guro Marc Denny and The DogBrother Tribe,

It was a pleasurable, exciting, and a great learning experience participating in my first DB gathering.  I would just like to thank you and the rest of your organization for allowing me to participate in such a unique event.   To all the fighters that participated I honor your courage and determination engaging in such an exciting event.   It was a very humbling experience to honestly fight with those gentlemen.  I apologize for any injuries (if any) I had sustained.  I for one had some hickies on my abs and shoulders.  It was also a great honor  meeting  Mr. Guro Marc Denny and the great TopDog Erik Knauss!   I admire the females who particpiated in such an event, I admire your courage and skills.

Peace.
