I wanted to post about my wonderful adventuring Training with the Crafty Dog here in Phoenix. This is cut and pasted from the members forum. Your not on the members site? What!!! Your loss Bro.!! WOOF!!

Woof, Thank you Guro Crafty for a great weekend of training!! It was great to see you and not only train, but spend time with you. .

All, Our adventure was one of a private nature, our group is small and we had 4 of the desert dogs in attendance. Guro Crafty knows all of us, and we were VERY privledged to be able to take part in some of his "Killing knife training" This material is super fantastic, super deadly, super fun to train and SUPER SERIOUS BAD ASS stuff!!! Not for the faint of heart. (seriously)

If ever you get the chance to spend time with Guro Crafty and train this material I HIGHLY recommend you take advantage of this!! Trust me you will be Blown away.
I can't wait to get into this material further and deeper as we just got the introduction version. (which is deadly as h#ll in its own right)

Woof Dog Terry, That sucks. I think you would like the Best Western that PK is talking about. If she can get a group/DB rate I will go back there also.
If memory serves me right, the reason we changed from there was that after our inital stay there, we checked to use it again and the rates had gone up pretty significantly. (So we looked else where)
Since that time though we have found that the rates do change depending on the season or events.

For the record, I did not care for the Hacienda hotel in El Segundo, and some of the guys used to like to stay there.
I'm sorry about your bad experience at the Quality Inn, I feel some what responsible. WOOF!

Woof Dog Terry, Wow!! Not my experience at all. I have recommended this hotel to people in the past and never have had a experience like this before. Also I have never paid more than 100 dollars a night for a room, usually less, how come your room was so much?.
Was this during the tribal Gathering that this occurred?  You never said anything and I don't recall any of the other guys saying anything?
I'm surprised to hear this.
I have also stayed at the Hotel PK Is talking about. Its nice there.  WOOF!  :-(

I would like to bring my "chucks" but as a newbie I do not how realistic all of this is.  I will probably get the crap kicked out of me in the first fight...

Bring your "Chucks" I'm pretty sure you will find someone to fight you with them.  As far as realistic goes. VERY! As real as it gets.
Be ready to fight hard.

It has great benefits to grip, wrist and forearm strength.

Woof Sled Dog, I'm glad to hear of what your doing and your progress. Stay with it Brother and make it a life long habit.
I turned 50 this year and have no intentions of slowing down.
I think your going to be well pleased with the levels you can get your self to.
Never be satisfied with where your at and never give in.........
As is a saying in DBMA "Consistency across category's"!
As for swinging a stick at a Gathering. IMO A older wiser high skilled guy is a force to be recconned with!

Woof GC, Very cool seats! Also tough tickets to get. I looked for you, but alas to no avail.  :-)

And so goes the heavy weight div.....CV is a very good well rounded fighter with plenty of gas in the tank.
But we are back to the 230 something pound heavy weights, which is ok...but I don't see him holding the title long.
I can remember when everyone  including myself thought Andre Arlovski was the next big thing  :-D
Jr. Dos Santos waits in the wings......and has a decent chance to be the next champ.

Martial Arts Topics / Re: talent is what the unskilled call skill
« on: October 10, 2010, 06:02:12 AM »
Woof, I would say talent is a relative term. As is skill.
When I made my post I was refering to those who reach Championship level, top tier,  break world records or compete at the elite level.
No matter how hard some work or over come....Its just a matter of fact that, there are only a few that reach the level I described.

A rare combination, of physical and mental gifts, as well as finding the perfect venue to use them.

Yes others can also be "skilled" because the work hard, but would it not be better to call them...."Good", "above average"....or even "ok"
I may have missed the point some where, as to what "skilled" really means.

Woof, Genetics and knowing your strengths play a vital role. Not to mention a strong mental drive that allows a person to push his physical limits, where as most, will let their minds say...."stop thats too hard"   :-D

Though I would say, If there are still spots open and your able to go and don't, thats a foolish move on your part.  :|

I would also say, regardless as to how good you think your ground game is,EVERYONE would benifit from attending this camp.
That is if your really serious about your fight game.

As for the stickfighting portion its going to be very hard if you don't have a training partner, I know from experience that its really hard to do drills alone and stuff like that.

Kinda. The original real contact stcik fighting series is pretty much desigend for solo training. I highly recommend this series for any begginer. Its outstanding and can be done alone.

Quote
As far as the balls for stickfighting things... In my experience it's not nearly as painful as it looks.

I'm not sure of Crazy Cossacks experience, but from my experience, I've seen plenty of guys go from the gathering to the hospital,  plenty of guys knocked out cold, cut,(in need of stitches) ect, ect.
I personally have broken a knuckle. feel fortunate thats the worst for me, though I have been clobbered pretty severly from time to time.
...I guess we could conclude pain is relative.

Woof Blackwolf, I hear you. I also live in a small town(about 30,00) here in Ohio....I often wish I was closer to Guro Crafty, and the Calif clan.
However take the Bull by the horns and get your own group going.
I don't know what your martial arts background is...but Through the DBMA Its entirely possible.
I started training Dog Brother material (Real contact stick fighting tapes) Mine are vhs. :-D
Progressed to the attacking blocks tapes and  the others.....
Made a trip to Calif. did some Private triaining...with Guro Crafty and so the adventure began........Six years latter I have fought in several gatherings......I'am stoked to the gills to say I was promoted to Candidate Dog brother.....had the honor of having Guro Crafty here for a day of private training(Ohio)....He was doing a seminar in Akron.........and the adventure truley continues and its a blast!
So long story short.......You can do all the things you want to do with DBMA.......Put some feet to it......and let it happen and watch it grow.......
I thinks its safe to say....that this is a very tight group......Guor Crafty......is a great leader of the pack....and we all take intrest in each other as individuals......
So be positive and build your own group.....It starts with you...but were all here to help.
I might also put a plug in to join the members site....lots to be gleaned there as well.........
If I can help in anyway....please let me know.
