How would you like to be able to master any fighting style or martial art in only 3 weeks, instead of 30 years?and be fully qualified to teach it to others- just like our Green Berets train foreign freedom fighters?

LONDON (Reuters) - A British woman was sentenced to two and a half years in jail Thursday for ripping off her ex-lover's testicle with her bare hands during a drunken brawl after he refused her sex.

Amanda Monti, 24, flew into a rage in May last year after Geoffrey Jones, 37, who had ended their long-term relationship, rejected her advances.

She grabbed him by the genitals, tearing off his left testicle, then hid it in her mouth before a friend of Jones handed it back to him saying "that's yours."

Monti, of Birkenhead, near Liverpool, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding at an earlier hearing.

Britons May Kill in Self-Defense, Law Enforcers Say (Update1)

Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Britons may kill intruders to their homes in self-defense, so long as the householders have used ``reasonable force,'' U.K. law enforcers said in a leaflet designed to clarify British law.

Householders are entitled to protect themselves using weapons and may use defensive force before being attacked if they are in fear of their lives or those of others, the Association of Chief Police Officers and the Crown Prosecution Service said today in an e-mailed leaflet.

Quote
At least 11 people have been prosecuted in the past 15 years for attacking intruders in houses, commercial premises or private land, U.K. Director of Public Prosecutions Ken Macdonald said on Jan. 13. Seven of those cases were as a result of a domestic household burglary.

May I point out that 11 prosecutions in 15 years doesn't exactly tally with the media perception that UK law sides with the criminal.

Quote
``Prosecutions of householders for tackling intruders are extremely rare,'' Macdonald said today. ``Even where householders have badly injured, or even killed burglars, the CPS has declined to prosecute unless they have used wholly excessive force.''

He was just on Channel 4 news stating that the vast majority of cases where homeowners have shot, stabbed, bludgeoned, or otherwise killed burglars have not led to any prosecution.

Martial Arts Topics / Need help choosing & using a bag, please

I recommend getting some bag training instructional videos or taking a few classes after you decide on a bag.

Gruhn

Will do.

Mainly it'll be for boxing work. I just went to a Panantukan seminar with Neil Mcleod at the Bob Breen Academy in London, and had a blast. Although I was pretty pleased with how my footwork and sensitivity are coming along (I do almost all my training at home with a housemate, when he's around), ultimately my hitting tools felt weak and innaccurate. So I'm looking at working those punches and elbows at close quarters, mostly in terms of technique and timing rather than sheer power.

I'm looking at getting a punchbag to hang in my home, I was wondering how suitable this type of bag (from my local fitness supplier) would be:

This is the 3ft version

and the 4ft version

They are both in my price range, my concern is that I often don't have anyone to hold the bag for me, is it going to swing wildly when doing punching and possibly kicking combos? I've never really done any bag work so frankly, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

Unfortunately even the cheapest heavy bag is over my budget

and also I don't really have space for it.

Any specific or general advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

Back stance?  People tend to use the back stance in a range that works great if you are pillow fighting.

Don't underestimate pillow fighting. Some of those guys are lethal.

Sorry to bother you, but the Dogbrothers promo video still doesn't run properly for me:

I get a message from WMP saying "The file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect". This is on a Mac, OSX, WMP v9.0.0

However when I download the movies to my drive before playing they download and run fine.

ALSO the NEW Craft Promo clip DOES run ok from the link.

Just FYI.

I agree with Buz but bear in mind that it was the Prosecuter who made an issue of the deadly nature of the art in the first place, the news coverage simply reflects that. Clearly they are using some emotional scare tactics as you describe but in this case to secure a conviction by inflaming the jury. As I understand it, it's a fairly common approach in any trial, he's simply trying to demonize the defendant to counter the defense's claim that he was helping a friend.

Hmmm this is out of my field, but it can be an issue. The manufacturer has the option of making the disc specific to 1 region or more. AKAIK there are 7 or so regions in the world, it goes N. America, Europe, SE Asia etc etc.

It is possible to switch a PC or Mac from one region to another (e.g. say I moved to the USA and wanted to play US DVDs) but you can only do it 3 or 4 times on one computer to prevent abuse.

The only reason for it is so movie DVDs don't get bought cheaply in the US for example then sold elsewhere (such as the UK where they cost twice as much) at a cut down price.

*BUT* I'm 99% certain it is something that your DVD manufacturer has to chose to do when encoding the disc, so if you tell them to make it "Multi Region" it shouldn't be a problem. It's NOT a technical compatibility issue like PAL/NTSC.

Multi region? I don't really get how that stuff works, but it would be a treat to be able to play them over here.

EDIT: You mean the Real Contact Stickfighting series right?

The product info links for the videos don't seem to be working right now, are the videos available in PAL format? I live in the UK.

Thanks again.

Does anyone have any resources for solo training techniques?

I don't have anybody to train with at the moment. For the most part, I've been 'shadow boxing' various knife, stick and empty hand drills, and I do feel it helps my body mechanics and flow, just by visualizing my training partner and focusing on the movements.

I don't feel my sensitivity is really helped by training like this, for obvious reasons, but I don't have any alternative right now. Obviously I can still do conditioning work and general exercise (push ups, sit ups etc.)

Is there a recommended way of doing what I'm doing? Is it unusual to do this?

Thanks

Alex
