Some twelve years ago Cindy and I were in a really big one (7.6?) in Huatulco Mexico at a Club Med during dinner.  The dinner hall had some 200 people in it-- who promptly stampeded under a huge plate glass window.  When the dust cleared, the only people left in the dining room were Cindy and me and three people at a nearby table.

We were all from Los Angeles.

haha, viva los angelenos!

i guess you would learn to live with it.

not bad, a little surprised they didn't show more photos, his camera was going off like a strobe.

holy smokes, been busy with work and the world kept on moving, wot a surprise.

on the choke, my voice is better now, thanks rene for caring :\

Tom, you were very restrained and very gentlemanly, would fight and train with you any time and be pretty darn confident in your skills and your control. it was a good  great choke and the only reason i could hold so long was because of the care you took to apply. someone with less experience and respect could have done it sooner and messed me up too.

Tom, if there was any wrongdoing it was me, you were very careful, very cautious and very respectful, i have absolutely NO HARD FEELINGS, none at all.
To be honest with you, after watching you in action, i can truly see the walk as a warrior all you days philosophy now. I have been worrying about getting older, you have a couple of years on me. seeing  you go at it boss has made me rethink a lot of what i figured was possible. i feel a little more hopeful about my "physical" future now. thanks for that.

To be truly honest, the worst injury i received that sunday was from my last fight when someone from the audience chucked the knife across the floor to al who two handed it at the bottom of my upper rib cage. i was told it was from someone who wasn't fighting, a friend or something.
i know, i know, prepare to defend yourself at all times.

i wonder if we may see a day when audience participation costs someone dearly. maybe not. i hope not.

anyway i probably should have gone to the doctor but worst case scenario it was some cracked ribs.

i would agree with dean, i think peeps should maybe hit the medic on their way out, not my call though.

i would also agree with the three distinct phases of the choke, i can see all three of them still, good eye jeff.

i wake up screaming in the night, my wife keeps asking who is tom, she thinks i am having an affair. kidding. seriously.

anyway, i am spending too much time on the confuser now, trying to keep my priorities in order.

If any of you make it up here before the blizzards, the wild moose and the savage beavers make it impoosible to travel during winter, would love to train with you guys and go get some eats.

nope, second gathering, nov 2005 being the first, and we get it on here 3 or 4 times a year.

but the gathering is an experience unto itself, isn't it.

13
Ok, posting details as requested.

the cause was Mr C- Howling Dog applying  respiratory choke across the windpipe which i resisted.  As he was gentlemanly and applied force as needed he increased the pressure.

i was fine at the time, my voice was hoarse but i was yelling pretty loudly and i was not surprised.

that night i lay down and as i swallowed there was some discomfort and a clicking sound, like a shotgun click click.

it was gone in the morning, however my voice is still shot, and the outside of my throat is sore. i am unable to yell or raise my voice.

i havent been to the doctor and probably will not as i am pretty busy with work right now and if i was going to die, it probably would have happened by now.

Dean I hope your leg is better quick, funny how you only grow hair on the one leg, convenient for the operation eh?

Ryan, i think i met your grand dad, nice fellow, good handshake.

ha, i am a pretty emotional guy i guess, i look at the photos and i want to be there again.  i should smile.

i came home and i could hardly talk more than a whisper, thanks big steve and tom g for leaning on my throat!

i lay in bed last night and every time i swallowed my adams apple would move up and down and click, it s true, scared me for a bit but hey if i gotta go out this is better than diapers ;]  .

gints i was hoping to see you, sorry to have missed you.

i wish i was there still. i have a pretty good life here, family and friends even, but damn i had more hugs than fights, wtf am i supposed to do now? watch golf? go back to my cubicle and pretend thats important?

After this weekend, everything else is slow, which helps my painting, but seriously now.

i would like to thank all the people who talked to me, put up with me, and even those who ignored me, this is my second gathering, and hopefully one more of many, and this was a life goal for me.

i cant do this without you, an we cant do this without each other, thanks for allowing me to be a part of a bigger picture which means something.

i am rambling a bit so i will leave off fore i wax maudlin, as if i already haven't.

gonna finish my glass of fighting cock bourbon, true, and start training tonight for next year, not true.

guro crafty, thanks for the time and effort you put into this, you have changed the lives of four canadians.

mabuhay ng escrima!! mabuhay ng familia, personal and martial!

hospitals incubate more than just sickness.
while receiving iv antibiotics for my leg infection the guy in the seat next to me offered to use his stun gun on me. then he promised to cut me.
he could hardly walk so it would not have been a good move on his part. when security moved to "assist" him out he couldnt walk his knee was so infected, i dont know how he was going to fight me.
this is the same hospital people were shot dead at two or three years ago.

A more reliable task is to send a few students to a several of the Dog Brother Gatherings to gain some experience with people outside of their class.  An average response is a better gauge than a contest between two of the top players.  What good is a system if it is only suitable to the founder ?

very good point

I think you misunderstand me, I didnt say they shouldn't, my point was a liability issue.
I think most people doing hat we do, especially those of us on the end of the spectrum we inhabit, really hitting each other, are of the same mentality as the gentleman with the sword. I have aided people in the past i have believed to be in need of assistance, none of these were policemen.
I can see why law enforcement say the things the way they do as in this case. I don't really believe the sword wielder just managed to walk away without anyone knowing who he was either.

could be a case of what they have to say versus what they should say. cant give free license to people who would wish to "aid" police officers. i dont trust most peeps with scissors let alone swords. just my pov

while i would not say this is very common it does happen here in igloo land. I think i remember when this happened. There was another case on the Island I believe when an OAP or damn near it defende himself against a mountain lion with a small knife he actually killed the cat.
From what i know of this past summer it was not so great for the bears in BC anyway. the berry crop which they rrely on for food, winter fat was not very abundant. There was a higher than average incidence of nuisance bears and one of the cubs they watch at whistler died of starvation. It may have been the year before, but i think it was this year.
Finally my personal fave is the story of the guy who had just started "playing" Jiu jitsu and he used to practice on his dog, one day whilst running he was stalked and attacked by a mountina lion. He believe it or not managed to get it's back and did what most of us would do, sunk his hooks in. Haha no mention of whether or not he sunk the third hook but I bet he applied the "Lion Killer." sorry. anyway he lay there for two hours i believe and let go of the animal because he was getting tired. The cat shot off into the woods due the the presence of a hiking party if i remember correctly.
it was in the paper so I am pretty sure it was a true story. whatever.
anyway i have to go, the stiking beavers are chewing through my interwebnet lines again and i am going to dropoff soon.

hahaha, I bet the camera men would be ecstatic if we covered lot's of ground. Hahaha, I hope they are fit, maybe they better start training too!

Hello compadres!
Now I have a computer again, I can lurk to my hearts content! w00t
I met a bunch of you guys this November.
Man what a time, I am stoked for June and ready to start training.
Truly a highlight of my life, I am still going over it in my head and writing notes.
Congrats to those who were promoted, I look forward to seeing those of you who attend in June again.
I lost my book of email addresses I collected I think I dropped it in the airport, it was very early.
Thank you to everyone who fought with me.
Before I go, is there an ETA on the photos Indrus took? I have been waiting to show my wife and the guys I train with!
