Martial Arts Topics / Myth of the streetfighter?
« on: June 01, 2004, 11:16:21 PM »
Even without reading the article I can easily say that tournaments even valetudo or NHB fights are not really simillar to real fighting or street fighting. In the streets the only rule is: THERE ARE NO RULES!!!

Here in the Philippines we have many martial arts that are very effective in the streets or actual fighting but if you use it in sparring sessions or NHB fights your techniques/ arsenal will be limited because the moves are designed to leave your opponent in extreme pain. In Filipino Martial Arts this is what we call "gulang" or "daya" these techniques are lethal and easy to apply even in actual fighting which is a real stressful situation.

But for me, it's better to be a complete fighter. Aside from practicing weapons fighting, empty hands(FMA) I still practice boxing and kickboxing for self defense and cardio.

I remember the saying:  "IF IT WORKS USE IT, WHATEVER WAY YOU WANT." sorry but I already forgot if Bruce Lee or Guro Dan Inosanto said it.

That's reality in knife fighting, you should be prepared to get a cut when you fight knife against knife. I also believe that one must learn how to use a knife in order to protect himself/ herself against knife attacks.

Martial Arts Topics / FBI studies concealable knives
« on: June 01, 2004, 10:21:02 PM »
Hi! Im new to this forum and I hope Im welcome. The situation here in the Philippines is different, I know a lot of people who carry folding knives., neck knives and even small fixed blade knives. I myself carry two knives; one neck knife and a folding knife. I also have an expandable baton in the car.

Security guards here aren't aware of concealed knives. They're so-called metal detectors are useless and they should upgrade they're training.

The Local Authorities/ Police isn't also aware of this things. Perhaps it is because of they're lack of training in Filipino Martial Arts. Only the Military personel recieves Filipino Martial Arts training. The main issue here is the government  does not support Filipino Martial Arts.

Guro Crafty Dog, do you guys have plans of conducting a seminar here in the Philippines, atleast in the near future.... I would like to commend you guys for propagating the art. You guys are the real deal!!!!!
