The gatherings are a great way to meet other like minded individuals who want to stick fight, but I can assure you that those are not the only times these people actually practice. I was also quite far away from others when I began and I found that it made me create my own group so that I could get my practice in.

The DVD route works for technical evolution but nothing replaces getting out there and doing it with friends or foe. Just the finding out what it feels to get hit is an eye opening experience. Realising that your power/fear/motivation impulses are all heightened by this thing is enough of a reason. Mostly that the pain you feared is rarely as bad as you thought. Remember, before the Dog Brothers existed we were still there and did it for ourselves.

Good luck, have fun.

Maxx,

Unless you are somehow much bigger than anyone we have ever seen before, or perhaps you can swing a stick like Barry Bonds you should not worry about your weapons hurting anyone. Fact is, this is not the Flintstones whacking each other's head while standing still, but fluid, mobile fighters who can close with you and make you just fight for survival. All this not mentioning the ground game that has become part of this thing and taking it to a new place.

Sparring is a voyage of self discovery, part of that voyage is finding out how little we really know.

Bon voyage.

Esse quam videri is the English side of my family's (mother's maiden name was Henshaw) motto on their coat of arms. Seemed appropriate.

I was supposed to corner a fighter in an MMA bout this weekend but I didn't go after all. By the time I found out the reasonable airfares to LA were unreasonable so I am at home this weekend.

As to my name. Just coming up with any name at the beginning was a feat. We did not really know how this thing would evolve. Just being happy that some one wanted to video tape us. You did not want to get stuck with a name that would follow you around for a few years like an albatros.

Like Crafty said, I attempted to use logic. I was from Canada, it was cold there (occasionally), there were sled dogs. I also had a reluctance to back up when I fought so there was a connection there as well. Seems to have stuck.

All the best to all participants. My heart is with you.

Woof,
SledĀ  Dog.

Just a wish of good luck and good health to all participants at next week's Gathering. Such an historic occasion being recorded by NG and bringing this thing to a wider audience will make some glad and some mad by they will never forget what they have seen.

I will be there in spirit and as an ancestor of some of the participants.

Esse quam videri.
