This made me remember the stories I've heard about domesticated dogs that overtake their owner in the event of an attack on their owner.  I'll expound:

There have been cases (I'll look for them later and cite them) where an owner's dogs actually join in on an attack of the owner to try and overthrow the alpha of their pack.  More or less showing that in other species will join in on a violent act because of pressure from the members of their pack.  Other primates do this as well . . .

Is this going to be a West Coast event or would the East Coast be a possibility?  I would be willing to offer up my gym for hosting.

What a great weekend.

Guro, thanks for allowing us to train with you Saturday and putting on the Gathering of the Pack!

Thanks to the North Hollywood gang for allowing us to train with you and helping us out with polishing up some techniques!

Rene and Howie, thanks for the laughs, almost getting us into a fight (NOT AT THE GATHERING) within the first 60 minutes of being in the state of California and for being so hospitable!

Tennessee Dog, thanks for the fight!  I'll be honest, my goal was not to turn down a fight regardless of who asked me as long as I was healthy.  I don't think I would have had the balls to ask you myself so I thank you for helping me jump into the deep end!

Kaju Dog, thanks for agreeing on doing a left handed fight.  I felt like a newbie again in stick range and it was invigorating!

"Bitch" Linda, you do a great job at killing skinny lanky guys!  Thanks for the fight!

Chhi’med, you were my "unknown" fight that I promised myself I'd have.  I had no clue what I was getting into and man was I impressed.  I felt like I was hitting a brick wall each time we entered clinch and your left handed stick power was as imposing as your right!  Thanks for agreeing to fight me left handed!

Lastly, thank you to my friends and fellow training partners "Dog" Mike and Jon.  The two of you are huge inspirations to me.

Woof!

Ryan "C-Guard Dog" Gruhn

Fighters,

I tore my right bicep earlier this week.  Thank God it was just the muscle and wasn't the tendon however, the Doctor said that the next weak link to go would be the tendon the torn muscle is attached to.  He is having me do physical therapy for the next 3 weeks and wants me to hold off for a month until I use it for anything strenuous.

With that said, I'm looking for experienced fighters to potentially go against me (left handed), you can be either hand and honor a no clinch or grappling rule.

Please feel free to email me or post back if you're interested: ryangruhn@hotmail.com

I got pretty good at hitting the tire over the past year however I was promptly reminded how much different splitting wood is.  When you get half way through a log it no longer makes sense to pull the ax back out.  Instead, logic tells me to lift not only the ax but the ax with the log still attached and then try to split it . . . .   Not sure it's the best way but definitely makes for a very interesting workout when you have no clue how many times you're actually going to swing the ax.

Here is my additional training to get ready for the Gathering next month:

An entire triaxle of firewood to cut, split and stack by the time I leave.  I estimate it to be around 8 cords.

Personally I think doing a "camp" DVD would be awesome!  Everyone else is doing it and I know that myself and others buy every "camp" DVD set that comes out!  8-)  Dog Brothers Martial Arts Camp 2009 . . . has a good ring!

74
State College, PA crew is a definite possibility for this!  :-D

Any news on the pilot.  I'm excited to see some of the angles they got with that huge boom arm for the camera!  8-)

Ron Balicki shared that with me back around '96-97.  It wouldn't surprise me if he got it from Erik Paulsen.

Guro,

"that" being the superman punch?

I remember seeing it as early as '96 in a Ohio "NHB" show by a guy with full Thai wear on; shorts, arm bands, etc.  :-D  Also, interestingly enough Ajarn Chai calls it "Mat Gatun" which means "pushing fist."

Anyone have any thoughts on Kyle Maynard fighting?  One side of me says, "if he wants to do it."  While the other side of me says that it's wrong on many levels.

YES!

Our stand up crew has always called this exact footwork & punch the "Steve Austin" because it looks like a close line.  I love how he starts off with a quick false lead fake before he hits it.

My fighters have been competing nonstop over the past year and this past weekend I had two of my Muay Thai fighters fight Full Muay Thai (no pads, elbows, knees, etc. all legal).  To say the least, I'm very proud of them . . .

Looking forward to it. How is everyone feeling?

Oh, you know. Just another weekend in the corral.

More character development via being beaten with sticks by much taller men (which is pretty much everyone for me).

More post-fight interviews with horse sh&% in your teeth.

Basically, I wouldn't miss it for the world.  :-D

Guide Dog,

I've made the executive decision and decided that we are not going to fight this time.  Why you ask?  You've turned out to be one of the nicest people I've ever met and instead of fighting I just want to give you big uncomfortably long hugs through out the weekend.  Be ready because they're coming out of left field and I won't let go until I feel I've received the love.  I hope you're okay with this!  :-D

It was a "different" venue, but then again we were fighting in horse crap a few months before.

 ...You know what, I LOVE the Powerhouse Gym.

My mask and gloves are still stained,  . . . poop color.  I also remember going back to the hotel one night, going into my office, wiping my rear end and getting more horse poo than my own.  Good times.

I just woke up from almost 14 straight hours of sleep.  What ever I have I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.  Likely just the flu I was on the brink of tears from a migraine that was coming on.  Luckily I was able to catch it in time and the pain has subsided.  Working with the public has it's benifits but catching all of the gross viruses out there is definitely one of the immense downfalls.
