Looks like there were flexible weapon matches...What did the fighters use, is that rope?
Where do you see this?

In addition I know I need to work on my techniques (blocks/combinations and more fighting), has anybody had any experience and thoughts on the matter.
There is a school in my area. I linked to the school's website in my post. (First paragraph.)
Thanks for the link though. It didn't list any schools I could get to, it seems the one I linked to in my first post is the only one I can attend, and believe me, I have done a lot of looking.
Edit: I'm sorry, I just realized I phrased my question improperly. I know how to go about finding schools, I don't know how to tell good FMA schools apart from bad ones. I have found a school, I want to know if it's good. This is what I need help with. Sorry for the confusion. I'm pretty dumb/inarticulate.
Does DBMA have any age limits on stickfighting?

Guru Crafty, I know that you've stated that other than correspondence, the two organizations have no ties, but I was wondering if any Black Eagle society members have participated at Dogbrother gatherings or if any Dogbrothers have participated at Black Eagle Society gatherings and what thier experiance was. Thanks! Simply curious..
Why not just say, if all the Dog Brothers had a big fight with the Black Eagle Society, who would win?
That's clearly what you REALLY wanted to ask

I can't see anything wrong with what you did; in fact you did everything you should have.

I'm well aware that I did the right thing--I have no doubt that the kid would have been clipped by that car had I not intervened--but I am personally appalled at the mother's indifference to her child, before, during, and after the incident in question.
Like I said, I just pray that the kid gets treated better than that from now on.
Rafael, Noy, & Everyone Else,
Also of interest:
About the term "Kali"
The word "kali" did not come about until about 20 years or so ago and seems to have been coined somewhere, sometime by Filipinos living in the USA. I have personally conducted a search for the word "kali" amongst old people of the major tribes and, except for "kalis" which means sword and "kali" in Ilocano, which means "a hole in the ground"; there is no other word or cognate of "kali".
Ilustrisimo used "kali" on the insistence of Mr. Leo Gaje who had visited with Tatang and also by an American anthropologist specializing in hoplology (which is a study of handheld, non-missile weapons), who seemed to have picked it up from Dan Inosanto's book. When I joined Tatang, "Kali Ilustrisimo" had been registered for about two or three years. Tony Diego (the present head of the Ilustrisimo system) and I, after the research mentioned, decided that "Kalis" is the more appropriate word because it means "sword" and would then mean the "Sword of Ilustrisimo." The name has not been formally registered except on a website but we had decided on this even when Tatang was still active and alive.
Thoughts?
Peace,

Dogzilla got a pair of mechanic gloves and said he would use them when we all fight in December. They ar real thin with good grips. Looks like batting glove to me. I'll ask him how he likes them and relay the message.
This will probably be my first fight and my hand is still broken so I'm gonna use something relatively protective for my first time.
I found a pair of sport work gloves at Home Depot. They are all leather, but i just use them when I get real bad blisters.
1. Floro Villabrille
2. Ben Largusa
3. Dan Inosanto
4. Leo Gaje Jr.
Questions and Comments:
a. When did Guro Dan Inosanto first meet and train with Mr. Ben Largusa? What year?
b. From the dates above training of Guro Dan Inosanto with Juan LaCoste puts it around mid-1960s to late-1960s, until his death in 1977.
c. If Guro Dan Inosanto trained with Mr. Ben Largusa, while he trained with Mr. Juan LaCoste, is there a chance that the word and concept of Kali transferred from Largusa, to Inosanto, then to LaCoste, who merely agreed to the term?
(more to come...)
Has anyone use football padded lineman's gloves for light sparring? Do they offer good protection?
I broke the 4th metatarsel (sp?) close to the wrist, right at the nub. The doc said it is doing great, but it is just not healed yet. He checked it at 5 weeks from the injury and i have another appointment next which will make 7weeks from injury.
For rehab I bought a squeezy ball and have a produce rubberband. I can't use my kettlebells yet, at least not the heavy one till I get more range of motion.

Aloha,
My name is Makena and I train with Dogzilla, here on O'ahu, Hawaii. Just here reading and thought I would introduce myself. I like the vibe.
Anyone who reads this and is in Hawaii, make a contact here if you want to come and scrap.
Aloha Kakou!
Howdy,
What kinds of injuries have y'all gotten from either your training or from "real contact" stickfighting an' how long did it take to heal and what was your method of recovery? Also do you still feel the effects your injury(or injuries) today? Thanks, I'm interested about participated in a gathering but leery of some of the aftermaths, I'm sure you can relate.
