I'm wondering the same, let us also know how big it was at the festival.  Was the crowed into it or were they more into the hip new pop bands?

With the letter to the UFC did you guys want to take on someone with sticks or without. I would like to see a phillipino Martial artist in the UFC under Escrima or Arnis using the sticks.

Hopefully it was two people with sticks   As mentioned before I believe it was meant to be an inbetween fights kind of thing.

I remember hearing the story of Magellan trying to take over the Philippines and where he came in the locals were doing their daily fishing (excuse my version I am sure it is not 100% accurate but this is what I remember).  They killed Magellan along with his entire crew and after they of all thing went back to, fishing.  I think that little tale might say something about the art, maybe it was viewed as something that was done then and isn?t now.  Kind of like old shoot outs in the old west.

I have used the JKD gloves in the past because I like the open finger feel but have since regressed to hockey gloves myself.

Martial Arts Topics / The knives you carry?
« on: September 07, 2004, 10:50:08 PM »
I am going to be honest here and say that I don't carry a knife most of the time.  I am going to assume you mean carry for self defense.  I live in a college town and the chances of having to use it for self protection are slim to none.  There is more of a chance that I would have to use self defense because some drunken frat kid decided I looked at him wrong, not because someone is trying to hurt a family member.  Also, I think you have to think of the legality behind it, if you decide to pull a knife on someone you better be ready to kill and kill for a good cause, that I just to see happening where I live.  Now if I lived in a big city and I know some of the members here do, that would be another story.  As for the ?rest? of the time I carry my Leatherman!

Wow,
And just to think that was just some small town guy that happened to know a thing or two about electronics.  Imagine what the big guys who actual invent the technology are capable of, not to comforting.

Martial Arts Topics / Has anyone ever seen a real Kali fight?
« on: September 07, 2004, 10:32:39 PM »
In relation to the first post and in no relation to any of the sub topics mentioned in this post I think the closest thing I have seen to somewhat of a Kali ?fight was with a pool stick.  In this situation the kid had no clue what to do but instinct directed him on how to swing and he clocked his opponent at least twice before the stick broke and the other guy charged him taking it to the ground.  Obviously the chances of two people just happening to have two pairs of sticks to fight with are slim to none and all of the training used in Kali can be relayed down any type of object, from beer bottles to bar stools all is relevant.

Paraffin wax has always done wonders for me.  It keeps for a secure feel and lasts long.

It reminds me of something the Flintstones might use for a baseball bat!  In any event I am in agreement, I am sure that thing would hurt to get cracked with!

I myself am rather lanky and don?t have to much weight behind me but from my experience a good power shot can stop even the biggest goon from coming in.  Check out the first tape in the series on power.
