One of my close friends is a body builder and had mentioned alot of stuff on the market is crap but mentioned to me that creatine and protein power are probably the only things besides steroids that work. I mean can you really go wrong with a Multi Vitimin? Those can't be bunk....When I took creatine, I could tell it had effects but I felt like I was fat ahahah

I shop at Vitimin world and buy their brand of protein power but now I am curious to know if there is a better brand of power out there

I have had some great results with the stuff that I take. I have been Using Protein Shakes, Creatine,Ammino Acids, L- Glutamine and Arginine and Dhea. Amoung the other ones I take Mutli Vitimin, Extra V-C, Zinc, B-12 and joint stuff. I have packed on a impressive amount of muscle mass and strength, then again I also work out 6 days a week 2 times a day and I eat well.

By the way,.. I've kind of known these guys, Conte and Patrick Arnold for years from the supplement world. Victor Conte makes ZMA and actually has some nice stuff on the market (legal). There is no magic however. Train hard, eat correctly, yadda, yadda.

I'd like to extend my thanks as well on behalf of my father and I.  As Crafty mentioned, it was great to see people fighting 5+ times on Sunday which I have a great amount of respect for.  I personally have not worked myself up to such a task but hope the three day gathering will help me take the leap into fighting many times in one day.  It was great to witness the transformation of the people who's cherries got popped and I hope to see them all again soon at the next gathering!

Woof!

At the Swiss Gathering shield & stick has been done.  A goodly number of Euros play with WMA so this was very interesting to see.  I think there is a thread in this forum about WMA.

WMA?

I have two friends who do that..It's not put together very well.

is there a lot that can be missed in FMA by primarily training only things which can be applied in sparring?

This hits on a real frustration of mine.  Techniques are a recording system for movements.  They can become so institutionalized that the context is lost (your hand must be placed in just this way ... WHY?) or they are so systemized that no useful muscle memory is being trained (5 different steps for 12 different disarms).

My answer to your question is, "Yes."  I try and exercise patience when learning techniques that I initially don't think will work at full speed because I hope to find something in the movement to add to my tool box.  I remember learning a disarm and thinking "This *&!@#@ move will never work," but then I started throwing an elbow into the guy's chest on my way in and the move worked beautifully.

I was wondering about the knife fighting. How do you go about it? What kinda rubber knife do you bring..What are the rules to the fighting with a knife?
Are they the same as fighting with a stick? Hand strikes, Grappling? But I am down to fight with a stick and shield..I don't know what to use as a shield..I can use a rubber trash can lid   :-D

I think those shields are helpful but I don't think that those western guys were attacked full steam. It was the same problem I saw with Human weapon..They sold the show to the public as "Our fighters are entering a ring with a real human weapon and they will have to survive a fight with a real human weapon" When in reality the fights were a little more then a Glorified sparring match with really interesting historical background.

The next show in LastOneStanding looks pretty cool. They have to do a Long distance run with very little oxygen..Seems pretty cool.

I feel that the other tribes went soft on the Western Guys..You could tell by the way they attack each other vs. the way they attack and were attacked by the Western guys. It seems just like they were going for shields..

Woof All:

I would like to mention that on page 66 of the Jan.'08 issue of "Tactical Knives" there is an article titled "Syderco's P'kal- Fist Full of Fight" which is about my friend Southnarc's reverse grip reverse edge Shivworks folder.    Those of you familiiar with Southnarc's Clinch Pick and Disciple designs know that a lot of serious combative IQ goes into the design of these knives and when we were talking last week he expressed a lot of pride to me that this, his first folder, has been done right.   We (DBIMA) are in conversation about carrying this knife.

TAC,
Crafty Dog

The only experiance My friends, My family and other's esp when I was in the Military of spydercos was the bad make of syderco's. Their tips always seem to break with just alittle added pressure. That's when I moved over to Cold Steel Knives for the Folders ,Cold Steel Tiger Claw Karambit and Sog Seal pup ( sog make beautiful fixed blades and Cold steel is just about the strongest sharpest knives I have ever owned)

I have drop any of the above mentioned before on their tips and nothing ever happend to them..Droped a Spyderco on its side and the tip broke. Now mind you this happend over the period of several Spyderco's and my friends,/family had gone though several spyderco's before we gave up.  Something you should look into. :-D unless they changed the quality on how they make knives

The one thing I have noticed from the Sayoc Kali stuff on you tube is that it's very fancy..There seems to be alot of Choreographed knife techincs where the person who is getting cut just seems to go with it..

Which clip are you refering to? There's some "fancy" stuff on youtube because those clips were for the Combat Choreography demo reel, they are not instructional clips but for film.

I have a problem here because in the chaos of battle ppl tend to slip or move away and not allow you to follow a predetermined set of patterned cuts. This is where I find the type of Kali that I take to be alittle more on the Cutting edge then this..We don't follow a pattern like that and have 6 strikes that move with the person durring the chaos.

Am I wrong here or is it just seem like that's what is being showed on the video's?

Yes, you're looking at it from a context that doesn't apply to Sayoc which is understandable if you've never trained in it.

The templates are not choreographed in the purpose you are describing it. What the Sayoc templates give you are optional lines of attack to vital targets. The drills give you a core pattern of flow, but after you train in them, you are no longer limited by the pattern. However, you retain WHY you do this slash versus a thrust and vice versa.

Imagine learning a jab, cross combo. That's a pattern.
Now add a left hook. That alters pattern.
After you learn how to box - those three strikes can make up numerous patterns once you have the coordination, concepts and body mechanics down.
What becomes important for a good boxer is WHY they are doing one move versus another.

Also, if the quantity of your "strikes" are "cutting edge" at the number 6, then would a system that gave you 3 "strikes" be even more cutting edge?

As per "chaos of battle", that's exactly why the Sayoc templates were created in the first place because the word "Chaos" to us means that one lacks a formula to solve a specific problem. To a JJ guy what they do is not chaos, but to an untrained eye it looks foreign. However, the JJ guy could be perfectly at ease in their realm.

Btw, since Sayoc is a Feeder- based system, the goal is not to move with the person, the goal is to make the person move with you.

If you have any more questions about Sayoc - please venture over to the sayoc.com site's public forum or better yet, give the guys at Intergrated a visit. It is much easier to grasp all this by actually training a little of it in person.

regards,
--Rafael--

@ Sun_Helmet  This is why I wanted to ask before I went into the realm. I was asking why it seemed like everything I watched on the subject looked fancy and Choreographed.I did not mean it was not effective or thats all the style had to offer was a set of Choreographed knife scenes..  I would like to learn some of it but I think the normal knife style that goes into Kali is enough to Land you in Jail after you chop someone up But I would like to see what it is all about. But yes I am very Interested in learning some...

There is just one Problem..This place is kinda far from me..I live in Rancho Cucamonga in the 909 is there any place closer to me then that or is that it?

@ Tom Stillman Sorry to hear about the problems with you health and I am REALLY sorry to hear about the divorce court thing..I hope it all turns out for the better and you pull ahead..Those court battle can be ruff..I don't know personally but I have had a couple good friends that went though them or the equivilent of them ( I.E long term relationships that took a sour dump) I was able to help pull them though the dark times around the Holiday seasons.

Stay strong Brother! Remember your training and you will survive!

And if that fails..A good cure for this is  A bucket of the Original KFC , A bottle of Whiskey or Jager and 2 good man Movies and a Xbox 360!

Martial Arts Topics / Re: A Father's Question
« on: September 12, 2007, 09:18:09 AM »
What a question and it's very easy to answer..I just turned 34 and I am the father of two awesome Kids. I have a 11 year old son and a soon to be this november a 2 year old daughter..And I had this talk with my Son and will have it with my Daughter..I told my son, I don't care what the school says..Someone tried to hurt you..You put them down..Training your son not to defend himself will make for a fine older Adult who just lets people walk all over him and then when it comes time for him to have a family and someone comes to hurt them...His family will suffer because he does not know how to step up...

I give my son tools..I teach him things from Kali,Silat, BJJ, Kenjutsu and Aikido..I don't however show him the things that can ruin anthoer young boys life..I teach him tools for him to help him defend himself Whereever the attack comes from..Be it a play ground fight or a Child molesting asshole or worse..I try to give him things that will help him..When he gets older and can understand what "Is going to far" I will show him the rest..

I will not allow my Family to be one of these "New Age Males" that belive the cops are there to help you and they magically show up out of thin air to help you..BS!

I also don't live in the fantasy world and ignore the fact that more and more kids and taking weapons to school or Guns and making everyone pay for their messed up heads..

If someone attacks my Son and he puts them down..And the school gives me shit..I am getting a lawyer..Thats the bottom line..And nobody is gonna make you pay or your son pay because someone attacked him and he put them down...

And for my Daughter..Well....That's Daddy's girl..I don't think I need to tell anyone here who is a father who has a Daughter what would happen to the fella who did not take no as a answer.
