« on: January 30, 2015, 01:01:38 PM »
The Midwest DBMA confederation of training groups is getting together tomorrow in Bloomington for a 1/2 day of training.

Karen and Robs SIU group is coming up from Carbondale, Greg's group is coming up from Champaign/Urbana and Carlos and Pete's groups are both coming down from Chicago land.

I will be focusing on training 2 man moving attacking blocks drills , 1a and 2a  then move to the drive by, point of the diamond and lower tooth material, i will finish with the crashing material that leads to the fang then pass to the other group leaders for Clinch training.

Pete (Smiling Dog) and Carlos (C- Maul dog) will be focusing on clinch work.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone.

Its not to late if your on the fence.

I will post a sit rep later in the weekend.

I think no one looted in Salt lake because they probably figured he was a criminal and the shooting was probably while unfortunate still justified.

The camp is just a week away now.

This is the perfect opportunity to turn off the cellphone, get back to nature and train with an amazing group of instructors under the leadership of Guro Denny.

This camp is for practitioners of all levels, from the beginner, to the person who has been training for the last 30 years.

You DO NOT have to fight or spar on Sunday, some times being the watcher resonates the clearest for some in the moment. If you want to dip your toe in the water with soft sticks and lots of protective gear this is also encouraged. In addition to having "The Guiding Force" Guro Marc Denny there will also be 3 candidate dog brothers in attendance, a few dogs and others who have fought at gatherings of the pack, i mention this because these people will be present and are highly qualified to move safely with beginners as they develop their game.

To speak for a moment about Saturday, that's where the majority of the training will occur and that is the perfect place for a practitioner to shine as they develop foot work, drilling competency, learn to integrate the installing of bilateralism and the synchronization of upper and  lower body movement,   No egos or attitudes just a lot of folks who care about each other and press development of the practitioner, the fighter and most importantly the person.

Looking forward to seeing and training with you all. If you have questions or are on the fence don't hesitate to call or email.

Early this  morning we went to the  zen garden and sat zazen with greg and dane. We then went down to the park and did a pre-gathering fight day. Full speed, full power with the intention to hit the other guy VERY  hard.  No major injuries or trips to hospital.  Afterward we got back to the house and we realized greg had lost his wallet at some point, so we started to back track,  He had lost it when changing in the bathroom at the park, some of the folks from the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where having a church potluck at the park and found it and held on to it until we back tracked and they were able to save his day,  Once again people reinforce to my soul that we are good and capable of sharing this planet and really are  watching out for each other.  Such a spiritual day,  Woof!!

BD,

I would suggest a rattan staff rather then a hard wood staff as the rattn doesnt shatter under power training. We will have some staff on sale.

Guro denny has staff for sale in the dog brothers store on the web site  "i have borrowed out of Guros  bag and fought with them at the gatherings.

http://dogbrothers.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=119

More then anything i would suggest getting the staff prior to seminar so you can get used to moving it around and working on your movement with a new staff.

Thanks for the catch on the editing date for our LEO friends.

The Midwest contingent of the Dogbrothers tribe and the Midwest Dbma and the Dbma school program from illinois all got together yesterday. We had 19 fighters participate!!! We met up in Chicago at the Bemis woods nature perserve. We had sparring and fighting in the morning, a fantastic lunch cooked by Carlos Flores and then a CPR session / bug out med kit session by Pete Juska and two RN's, later in the afternoon we had a few teaching sessions. We had 19 fighters and everyone made it through without any major injuries. The intensity was high in a lot of the fights and many of the newer people tested their live stick games. Lots of growth was evident. If your intrested in this path make it happen, if no one is around you then organize and build. The infrastructure is there to facilitate growth. The mid west tribe proves that the infractructure and support system is in place and ready for you to take your next step. Tomorrow is promised to no man. If your intrested in stick fighting and havent done it yet get involved. Go to a seminar, take a private with Guro Crafty, buy some tapes and start your path.

Woof HD,

This was during the public gathering in September.

I suppose it could have been the perfect storm of mistakes and BAD customer service during the stay but the Head managers response after the fact was so disappointing, he just didn't want to make it right.

I even explained to the manager that i had stayed there before and would be coming back to Hermosa for years to come, it was clear that he didn't care by his actions.  I also made it clear that i would voice my oppinion to my friends who also travel and stay in Hermosa.

I stuck it in this thread as i realized that some of you would be making hotel reservations for the camp and didnt want to let this slip off my radar before i shared with everyone my experience.

I had gotten used to the location and had learned my way around with that hotel as a central way point of reference for me while in the Hermosa area. .   I plan on staying at the Best Western or some other hotel when i come out for The Tribal in the spring.

By now I have learned my way around Hermosa and its such a beautiful community that i wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in the area, i feel safe in the community and enjoy the restaurants and the night life and the beach area, i will just be using a different hotel on my future trips.

woof,

it was around $150.00 a night, for that you get..... over an hour to wait in the lobby to check in at 9pm because they gave your room  away in error, then they send you to a second room with a 1/4 inch of standing water on the floor,  you also don't get a phone in your room, oh and you don't get air conditioning in your room for the 4 days your there, and an unmaid bed when you walk in the room they finally dump on you because they are over booked for the entire weekend.    Again i advise everyone to avoid Quality Inn on aviation blvd in Hermosa.

Just as an FYI we had a horrible experience at the Quality Inn on aviation blvd in Hermosa when we were out for the public gathering.  After staying there a few times in the past we were shocked at the poor experience,  the room was terrible and the managements ability to fix problems  during the stay just didn't happen.  To top it off the  managements ability to make things correct after the stay was even worse.  DO NOT STAY THERE! We wont use them again and  I STRONGLY advise any of you not to stay there.

Beat the Crap out of Cancer----Bloomington Illinois

I would like to invite you to the Bloomngton, Illinois installment of the 2nd Annual “Beat the Crap Out of Cancer” Event being held on Saturday Oct 15th to benefit Cancer research.

This event started in Toronto Canada and has become a worldwide event, with locations this year in Hawaii, Los Angeles, Bloomington Illinois, Toronto Canada and The United Kingdom all on the same day.

This event is for Weapons Fighters of all Martial Arts to get together and fight for a worthy cause.... As with most “Fund raising events” ,Each fighter is asked to get friends and family members to “sponsor the fighter” our recommended sponsorship levels are $5 per fight or $25 per day, but any amout will help and all funds raised will be greatly appreciated!. We encourage you as a fighter to get as many fights as you can to help battle this terrible disease.

We are also recruiting Corporate Sponsors to help this “unique” event.

Every fighter will be able to wear as little or as Much Protective gear as they feel comfortable with. Fighters may also elect to fight with Padded Weapons, or live rattan or hard wood weapons. Head gear is a MUST. This is NOT a Dog Brothers Gathering, but rather an event for the Martial Arts weapons community to get together and Spar against other weapons based martial artists and to test yourself and test your art. This is open to ALL Styles, …Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Indian, Native American, Israeli, Indonesian, African and all other systems.

Each Fighter will be receiving an Event T-shirt to wear when they fight to support the cause.

Fighter Registration/ Sponsorship forms will be available on the web at http://www.jkd-concepts.com/Cancer.htmlbegining on August 22nd or we can email the forms to you or send them through the post office.

This year, the Illinois event will be held at Forest Park in Bloomington Illinois from 11:00am. to 3:00 pm.
-
In the event of Rain the event will be held at the Lincoln Leisure Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
-
Please don’t miss out on an opportunity to watch or participate in a terrific and unique event for a worthy cause.

Each one of us has been affected directly or indirectly by Cancer. It’s time to stop standing on the side and Fight for those who battle this disease every day.

WE Hope to see you at this event, and please take the time and pass this invitation on to your family and friends.

Thank you,

Dog Terry Crutcher
