Typically, as a group, you need to subdue without too causing too much bodily harm, but again, someone with a knife or weapon has added "deadly force" to the equation so if he gets banged up a bit, not that much of any issue, as long as he is not killed.
Restraining the individual is the goal, but fact is, very few between know how to do that.
Typically it is safest to get him in a "head lock" and get a few people on him and his "weapon", disarm him and hold him there, while someone calls the police of hist the emergency stop in a subway.
The best way is to jump him from his blind side and get a hold of his weapon arm and just hold on with superiour numbers.
I am sure there will be a few that get their licks in and that is "OK" too.
Untrained people need to rely on sheer numbers and weight.

Supposedly its human "nature", in terms of groups, to take the easy way out or to be reactive, in other words, I am sure that someone was waiting for someone else to make the first move.
As we have seen in other clips where people to, eventually get involved, its usually one person starting it and then other follow suit.
You actually never see multiple defending someone, though you see many multiples attacking someone.

Nice finds Maxx.
One thing we can say, thank goodness none of those people actually knew how to use a knife.
Too bad for that Mom that was killed trying to stop the car jacking to save her baby.
Breaks my heart when I hear things like that.

I don't care if they know how to use it or not. Someone swinging a knife at me has a black belt!!

LOL, you got that right !

One thing we can take away from these and other clips is that it is never a solitary attack, all knife attacks involve multiple stabbing attacks, typically to the same target.

Here is a pretty brutal one that ends with the help of store clerks

Here is another

This one starts off as a jumping and then one of the shitheads pulls a knife and sticks the guy several times

Canada has been putting out some excellent fighters, both physically and in character.

Its the cold weather, it toughens you up and if you get too cocky, you get thrown out barefooted in the snow.
Ah, I miss those days...

Randy Couture, and GSP come to mind , , ,

Yep, class acts both of them, comforting to see that in GSP, being a "next generation" fighter, of course he is Canadian, ;)

" , , , while the medical staff are making sure he is ok you start prancing like a peacock and doing something that is appropraite for a gay strip club, that is a tad to demeaning in my view."

Oh.   I only noticed the part where he did some Muay Thai Wai Kru looking sort of a thing.  Sexual movements? :-o  We're in complete agreement! :-D

LOL, I wasn't referring to Silva in particular, but antics in general.
Silva is still the best in my book and the MT "ritual" I can live with, the samba is a tad silly though.
I have seen guys put more effort into their celebrations than they did in the actual match !

Great example Dog Ryan.

Ronin, FWIW I did not find the vicotry dance to be disrespectful at all.

To each their own, I find an over indulgent NFL type victory dance unbecoming of a fighter and a professional.
A show of celebration like a fist pump or hugging his corner is fine, and even Bas's jumps or flips AFTER the  match is ok, but you just KO some guy ot choke him out and while the medical staff are making sure he is ok you start prancing like a peacock and doing something that is appropraite for a gay strip club, that is a tad to demeaning in my view.

I agree,

Here is what a fighter should be able to do:

Minus the crappy dancing which, by the way, always demeans a fighter.
Silva is a class act, he shouldn't do those silly things, must be the "samba in him" ;)
Never care much for the post KO celebration some fighters do, always tasteless.

nope, second gathering, nov 2005 being the first, and we get it on here 3 or 4 times a year.

but the gathering is an experience unto itself, isn't it.

Well, that's true.
But I am sure you'll adapt to "civilian life" again, LOL !

ha, i am a pretty emotional guy i guess, i look at the photos and i want to be there again.  i should smile.

i came home and i could hardly talk more than a whisper, thanks big steve and tom g for leaning on my throat!

i lay in bed last night and every time i swallowed my adams apple would move up and down and click, it s true, scared me for a bit but hey if i gotta go out this is better than diapers ;]  .

gints i was hoping to see you, sorry to have missed you.

i wish i was there still. i have a pretty good life here, family and friends even, but damn i had more hugs than fights, wtf am i supposed to do now? watch golf? go back to my cubicle and pretend thats important?

After this weekend, everything else is slow, which helps my painting, but seriously now.

i would like to thank all the people who talked to me, put up with me, and even those who ignored me, this is my second gathering, and hopefully one more of many, and this was a life goal for me.

i cant do this without you, an we cant do this without each other, thanks for allowing me to be a part of a bigger picture which means something.

i am rambling a bit so i will leave off fore i wax maudlin, as if i already haven't.

gonna finish my glass of fighting cock bourbon, true, and start training tonight for next year, not true.

guro crafty, thanks for the time and effort you put into this, you have changed the lives of four canadians.

mabuhay ng escrima!! mabuhay ng familia, personal and martial!

( i reread this twice and i dont want to post it really but i am hitting the button anyway)

I'm in Toronto and we caught the UFC freebie on the big screen at a restaurant-bar.  Possibly the most boring card I have ever seen.   There was a good Peruvian necktie and one hellacious eyejab-- but the rest was a giant snore.

I can't watch the AA clip here on the hotel computer, that will have to wait until I am back in LA.

Kevin's finger (thumb?) jab was a crappy end to an OK fight, but it did prove one thing, finger pokes to work, even when accidental.
