« on: August 01, 2005, 04:47:36 PM »
Woof T-bone,

I guess all those sucking chest wounds I saw in combat is a myth also

My background is in combat and knife instruction. And have used a knife once or twice in my line of work. But I don't mean to brag.

When I hear questions like this I often wonder why you would like to know?

Anyway in my experince with knives and the damage they can inflict. The human body is a amazing organizm. When punctured it tries to seal the wound, which could cause the blade to be trapped.

I have trained with Robert Redfeather a few times.

Very hard core knife training.

About Dog names can't help you there. I do know that the term Ghost Dog is a spiritual term.

Martial Arts Topics / Transporting sticks?
« on: June 14, 2005, 04:32:25 PM »

If you have any doubts just ask the airline rep when you get your ticket or check your bags. I have traveled all over the world with my sticks and asps no questions asked. Just nervous about the firearms.

Just stay out of Chicago O'hara. I got held up for 2 and a half hours over a red gun (training weapon made of hard rubber). :?

Woof Guro C.,

The article is very good. Long yes, but they can always make it a 2 parter.

I have to admit I for some reason feel a great sadness for releasing KT to the general public.

Guro C.,

Congrats on the induction well deserved

« on: April 12, 2005, 11:26:34 AM »
Woof all,

I am leaning towards baseball batting gloves or a tactical kind of glove that has padding on the back of the hand but the palm is like a normal glove. Also soft knee and elbow pads.

Any one where I can get a good deal on a fencing helmet.

Martial Arts Topics / Humor

Woof All,

Came across these while traveling to Moscow.

Not long ago and far away, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip....but there were problems everywhere.

Four of his elves were sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behing schedule.

Then Mr.s Claus told Santa that her mom was coming to visit. This stressed Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where. MORE STRESS. Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the boards cracked and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys. So, frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of coffe and a shot of whiskey. When he went to the cupboard, he found the elves had hidden the liquor and there was nothing to drink. In his frustration, he dropped the coffe pot and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor.

He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw it was made from.

Just then the doorbell rang and Santa cussed on his way to the door. He opened the door and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said: "Where would you like to put this tree Santa?"

And that my friends, is how the little angel came to be on top of the Christmas tree.

Smart little girl-a valentine for Osama Bin Laden

Little Melissa comes home from first grade and tells her father that they learned about the history of Valentine's Day.

"Since Valentine's Day is for a Christian saint and we're Jewish," she asks," will God get mad at me for giving someone a valentine?"

Melissa's father thinks a bit, then says "No,I don't think God would get mad. Who do you want to give a valentine to?"

Osama Bin Laden," she says. "Why Osama Bin Laden," her father asks in shock.

"Well," she says, I thought that if a little American Jewish girl could have enough love to give Osama a valentine, he might start to think that maybe we'er not all bad, and maybe start loving people a little bit. And if other kids saw what I did and sent valentines to Osama, he'd love everyone alot. And then he'd start going all over the place to tell everyone how much he loved them and how he didn't hate anyone anymore."

Her father's heart swells and ge looks at his daughter with newfound pride. "Melissa, that's the most wounderful thing I've ever heard."

"I know," Melissa says, " and once that gets him out in the open, the Marines could blow the @#*@ out of him."

Martial Arts Topics / The future of DBMA
« on: August 21, 2004, 08:34:25 AM »
Woof Guro C.,

Let me clarify my question a little. Do you see the DB System staying out on the fringe. Or maybe moving out more mainstream like in the "cage". Or even moving out into the self-protection arena?

Hope the shoot is going well. Ever thought about a knife vid lesson? I know you have doubts of doing a video on the subject. Maybe a vid lesson could give you more control on the distrubution.

Woof Guro C.,

Hope the shoot is going well. A quick question for you and any one else who would like to respond.

Where would you like to see the Dog Brother System in say 10 to 20 years?

Just curious on your thoughts.

What I learned about knife combat? 99% of what is taught in a "martial arts" program will get you killed. Knife fights happen up close with very little warning. The weapons get slippery and hard to hold on to due to the flowing of blood. Also the rush is almost overwhelming.

What works. In my case more slashes than thrusts. Targets. Won't get into that.

a good rule of thumb that we go by is any thing under 4 inches is legal in most states. as long as it is not a switch blade.

Martial Arts Topics / My L.A. trip
« on: August 23, 2003, 09:09:52 AM »
Woof Guro C. from Africa,

I gave you the wrong dates for our training in L.A. I gave you Dec. 12 and 13. I meant the 13 and 14 of Dec.(Sat./Sun.). I will be arriving in LA on the 12 and leaving on the 15 or 16. Let me know if these dates are ok with you.

*So noted-- no problem.

Hope you are surviving your Mr. Mom duties.  :)

*I see them as Dad duties.  We just got back yesterday from our first road trip just the two of us (plus dog) together in the family van.  We went to San Luis Obispo, where we hung out with Tom Meadows; fishing, stickfighting, and banging on Tom's drum set with great glee.  From there up to Palo Alto to see my cousin Terry's son and play there and then another night in SLO on the way home.

The entire way in the van was spent to the sound of AC DC's "Hells Bells" to which Conrad has taken a great fancy.    :D

Good stuff.

Martial Arts Topics / Violence against Women
« on: May 03, 2003, 07:49:14 AM »
Violence against women is a terrible thing to happen in Western society. Sad to say any violent crime against the moral value of a community will make the news. Most violence against men is considered "boys being boys" unless there is extreme violence or death you may never hear about it.

You say rape isn't taken very serious by LEO's. I don't know about Canada and it's laws. But I can tell you here in the Southwestern part of the U.S. it is taken very serious and at time the sentences are stiffer than first degree murder. When convicted a rapist or child molester will also face the wrath of his fellow inmates.

I guess what I am trying to say is yes women have to be aware of violence everyday. The attacker looks for the weak to prey upon. He is not looking for a street fight. But for a victim. So that being said. A woman would benifit greatly from learning a street based system. Will it stop all women from being attacked. No. But then nothing will.

My wife has just recently started studing DBMA and she carries a .45 just in case.
