Location for June '07 Gathering
« on: January 07, 2007, 11:17:19 AM »
Woof All:

Due to the conversations with Nat Geo and with Spike, we need to consider a different location for the June '07 Gathering.

It should be somewhere in the LA area.  Outdoors is an option-- maybe a clearing in the forest?

Lets brainstorm.

Any chance we can bring it back to it's original location?

Original location is probably a no-go.

An ideal location would allow for camping the night before and after.

there are some campsites along PCH next to the beach, if fighting on the sand is an option.

alternatively, there's a large park in Long Beach, close to where Bellflower Rd. ends (iirc)...

or maybe up in the Topanga Canyon area...? but i don't know about campsites up that way...

I'm thinking this may be a hard sell to some park rangers-- private property would be better is my guess.

fighting on the beach sucks, and it's a bitch to clean sand out later, not to mention abrasions, grind and possible bacterial problems, lets go gangster and use the los angeles river overflow things. talk about neo tribal street cred.

My Kenpo club holds a four hour belt ceremony workout on the beaches of Bodega Bay , north of San Francisco.   While the location is scenic, from a performance aspect, moving on slippery sand is difficult, and everyone moves slower, in part due to caution and in part due to fatigue.   There are often a few pulled groin muscles for those unaccostumed to working out on sand (probably all of us!), and that would cull away the older fighters.   This wouldn't make for a good showing.

I liked Phil's suggestion of working out in the river overflows.  That would make for a different gathering as folks would be less willing to go to the hard ground.   My group tried fighting in a river runoff pump station, and the cement wasn't too bad.

This could be interesting. I have only fought at R1 and would look forward to more "space" to deal with.
