how do you block/deflect/evade a combination attack

in the first set of DBMA tapes, techniques were shown on how to block/deflect/evade single strike attacks from an oppenent.
does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, advice on blocking/deflecting/evading a combination attack from a single opponent?
I know that one(at least me) cannot simply stand in front of an opponent and block/deflect/evade every single oncoming hit of a combination attack......
i.e. a forehand slash to a backhand horz slash to a forehand horz slash(just for an example), but if you can.. WOW!! you are an amazing stick fighter and I would definitely be interested on your insight as how to acquire such a skill.
so aside from constant practice/drills... are there any concepts/ideas/techniques that are logically practical that I can implement into my training that can help when it comes to someone throwing a barrage of strikes at me.

mabuhay ng escrima!
