I came across this recently http://vorschau.iepe.net/wcbo/content/index_en.html

Apparently it is a genuine sport with pros.   It combines 4 minute rounds of chess with boxing rounds in 11 round fights.  You can win by checkmate or knockout!

Anyone remember a Harry Harrison SF novel where a human colonized planet had an Olympic-like  20event contest that combined combat sports with chess and poetry reading? The winner for the year was called simply a Winner.
