new knife sparring game
« on: May 06, 2005, 11:37:37 AM »
I finaly found the answer to keeping it real when knife sparring. "STUN GUNS". They cause temporary paralisis but are otherwise harmless to a generally healthy person. I am associated with a group that uses this technique and it works well. Just think. Knife sparring with a knock out punch. Im sure this will be intriguing to many Knife Fighters and Dogs alike.  P.S.  Wear goggles and don't wear thick clothing.     Tom

Good idea

That sounds like a very good idea.  Please share your findings when you get a chance to try it out.

Also, how much do these bad boys run price-wise?  Links to online vendors?  I have no experience with them whatsoever.

Well, we'll be testing it.

I couldn't resist.  I just ordered a pair of them, and we should be trying them out in a couple of weeks.  I had no idea how cheap they were.  Got a pair of Stun Master 100s for a grand total of 40 bucks, including shipping.  I'll let you all know how they work out.

If any sparring buddies have bad hearts, make 'em sign a release/waver form!  If this thread ever gets the attention it deserves, you know it'll be 6 months before some enterprising tactical wanna-be kinda guy comes out with a stungun on a knife handle and charges $400 bucks!  Remember that almost forgettable Tom Cruise gem; "Minority Report"?  The cops had jetpacks AND these batons that cause instant vomiting when they touch a victim!  God!  Think what fun could be had on public transportation if these were real!

Best to use a longer and more round shaped type of stun gun rather than the short square type. Search Google Images for "Stun Gun" to see different types. ALSO: I suggest padding the stun gun with a 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick mini cell foam padding wraped with black electricle tape to help protect the device from heavy impact.

Sorry Dude, your idea has been done before by Kevin "Mad Dog" McClung, I believe.  Some kind of blade trainer wired to a very serious battery to deliver shocks.   I know others who spar using burning incense sticks for added motivation.

I think I'll stick to training blades   But none the less, it is a good idea.

Hey, wasn't "my idea".  I was just joking, knowing that some yahoo catering to tactical macho warrior dudes would come up with a product to make a buck off of people with too much money and time.  I have seen/handled a few of McClung's blades though, and they are tough SOB's!  Someone once told me he shot one of his pet dogs for biting or barking at a guest, then boiled the skull and keeps it on his mantel.  Does anybody know if this is true?  If so, I suppose he's a real MAD dog.

Those kids watch way too much Jackass!
Actually, stunts like that are great because they aren't hurting anyone but themselves.  I hear parents complain about reality/stupid stunt shows.  Think logically about it....If a kid is stupid enought to emulate what he sees on TV, he gets what he deserves, be it an animal bite, or a concussion!  Natural selection in action in our busy, hight tech world.

Fake blade, but real painCop invents training aid
By BOB HOLLIDAY, STAFF REPORTER

As Jeff Quail slid the blade of the Shocknife across a reporter's extended right arm, the cut felt deep, very deep, but there was no blood.

Instead of a sharp edge for cutting, the Shocknife emits an electrical charge -- up to 7,500 volts from a nine-volt battery.

For the demonstration, the voltage was set to a rather minute 600 volts.

The knife is the brainchild of Quail, a former instructor at the Winnipeg Police Academy. Quail and partner Rory Bochinski hope to market their device to police departments across the world. . . .
