The origins of "Stick?s Dance" (Ball de Bastons / Baile de Bastones / Dance of Canes) are very difficult to have reference, nevertheless is the traditional dance older than it is even danced.
The first written references date from century XII, concretely year 1150 when during the banquet of the wedding of count Berenguer IV a dance became of canes.
Formerly, the soldiers, in the days of peace, to train in the handling of the swords and not to become damage did two sides i faced armed canes.
The symbology of the dance of canes in Catalonia, is the interpretation of two sides fighting, making different movements i alternating the fight with the side crossing, always distinguished by the colors of its clothes.
The canes, essential element for this dance, is the wood facts of alzina drought have a length of about 40-50 cm and about 5 cm in thickness.
Even so, these characteristics are not generalizables since each "group" has proios canes with its particular characteristics

- Cuba: Matanzas and Havana
- WinterbournDown (England).
- San Pedro de Gaillos (Segovia, Espa?a).
