Martial Arts Topics / Re: VIDEO CLIPS OF INTEREST

Hi all,

I did a search for "Navy Seal Las Vegas" and found nothing. This is a news report featuring surveillance footage of a Navy SEAL in LAs Vegas attacking innocent people with a pipe in March of 2010. His trial is coming up in August. I offer it as it has some dramatic footage of the pipe assaults in various context. Innocents randomly attacked (awareness and avoidance) and a plain clothes police officer(s) fighting the man in order to subdue him (knowingly going empty hand against the pipe probably due to the immediacy and close proximity of the situation).

not real about an edged weapon but defiantly a scary one to deal with
my mom was robbed by some one using a hypodermic needle she was cornered and asked for her money.
this happens alto in her neighbourhood and its usually junkies, they usually wait for someone to use a phone booth or ATM machine
or the walk in groups and and push you into an Ailey . they also usually say the have HIV and the just used the needle for extra intimidation
like i said not relay edged weapon but something to think about
H.

It certainly counds as an edged weapon. Similar to a shiv made in prison. The needle may not cause near as much physical trauma but add the potential of disease and it is something to be taken seriously. LEO's will attest to this as they encounter needles a lot in their day to day interactions. They are not to be taken lightly.

She's lucky to be alive. He showed amazing restraint considering the situation. I hope she spends many years in a small cell.

8-)

I've watched the first two episodes.  They really wore Doug out all week.  I know both Jimmy and Doug, they have nothing but a higher level of respect for Kali after doing that episode.

Be sure to watch the Feb 29th episode on Kajukenbo - My instructor GM Harper is the "Master" that takes Doug for a week and I was one of his assistants all week.  Goodtimes...  See my blog and pics link for more.

Im excited to see the final production...  They take about 50+ hrs of footage and make a 45 min episode after comercials they use only about 25 mins of the film.  We all had a great week and fought at the end of every training day.  We fought boxing, mma, construction yard obstacle course with random attacks along the way, a biker bar scene and even a down and dirty bare knuckle match.   :-D  The final test fight went EH V's Knife, EH V's Stick and EH V's EH.  Watch for the KO!  I wont tell you who gets KO'd...  You just gotta watch  :-o

Both Doug and Jimmy are great guys with a HUGE amount of heart.

Blog link is in my signature line.

Congratulations! That is sweet. I have enjoyed the show and will look forward to seeing you on the program.

Maxx, why not make Friday your "off" day. You can enjoy the HUMAN WEAPON show and still be contributing to your training!

Hi Maxx,

I'm not a doctor so I cannot comment from a medical perspective,  but I have trained martial arts for a significant number of years. I believe a recovery period is essential to avoid overtraining. I wish I could train 7 days a week like I did when I was younger! You sound like you really put a lot into your daily routine and that coupled with other factors (age, health, sleep habits, etc) could certainly lead to the effects you speak of. I'd work heavy exertion every other day and work finer skills sets on the off days. You'll still get workouts daily but avoid over exerting yourself too much. maybe consider a full day off once a week as a reward for the work the rest of the week. Good luck!

I just watched an interview with David Mamet on the Fox News website. He is talking about training the actors for Redbelt, his new movie about MMA. In the interview he points out (in the background) Rico Chiapparelli, who is training some of the fighters / actors. Here's the clip:

Quote
"MMA is not barbaric," he contends. "Barbaric is when two guys want to get in the ring or in a cage and fight each other with objects. That's when it's barbaric. Right now, I've just got my hands.

Interesting quote from Kimbo.

At the moment the plan is for him to stay through November.

That is awesome. I can't help but be curious. Does he live off of savings or possibly find work in the area to finance his trip / training? What a great training experience!

One of my favorite films. Everything is so understated. It's very well done.

Hi Ryan,

I ran across info on this film over at Guro Inosanto's website. IMDB has a page started and will probably feature updates as they arrive.

Well, this looks like a good place to say hello and introduce myself. It also looks like I am reviving a thread in some way. I looked for a "introduction thread" here and came up short. I have been training in martial arts since 1983. My interest in DBMA has really escallated over the past year as I have frequented the website and enjoyed watching the video clips.

My initial introduction to DBMA was several years ago when I saw an ad in a martial arts magazine---I thought man, that looks extreme and kind of forgot about it. As the media continued to cover DBMA, I was drawn to the teachings after listening to Mr. Denny speak. I think it was on some "Top Ten" martial arts program I had recorded. I was impressed by Marc's commentary and explanation of DB philosophy. My initial impression was very wrong! Not only was the fighting technical in its appraoch, the fellowship and brotherhood of like minded individuals really made an impression on me.

Fast forward to this past year (2006-2007). I have purchased the DLO1 DVD with Marc and Gabe (Suarez) and I was sold! Soon after this I found myself buying other DBMA DVD's as well as some sticks (whenI got the sticks I was suprised to see how big they were!). As I write this I am awaiting the arrival of a few more DVD's and my membership to DBMAA! The best part of this came two days ago when I received a phone call from Guro Marc "Crafty Dog" Denny himself! He was following up with some questions / business and we ended up taliking for 45 minutes. That was a blast. Thank you Mr. Denny.

Sorry for the long winded intro. I cannot wait to get to know the folks here and to learn as much as I can.

Stay safe,

Chris
