I started my formal training in 1983 with Karate. This lasted for two years, but I remained involved in Japanese martial arts (Judo, Ju-Jitsu, and Japanese weaponry) for several more. Next, I gravitated to full contact fighting (Boxing, Muay Thai and Sanda). Above all, I felt comfortable as a boxer, and participated in a number of amateur tournaments.

In the early nineties, I became interested in Kali. However with no instructor nearby, I found that I had to resort to learning from instructional videos. Of the many that I watched, the first series by the Dog Brothers made a great impression on me.

After four years of working from videos, and spending many hours stick fighting with my training partners, we flew to Los Angeles to train with Marc “Crafty Dog” Denny. That was an important step from which we all benefited. In fact, I was so pleased that I returned to L.A. the following year, to fight in my first Gathering. I kept going back every year, and in 2002, I became a full Dog Brother. Several years later, I was given the honor of being admitted into the “Council of Elders”.

Currently, I am the European representative of Dog Brothers Martial Arts (DBMA) and thus the coach for the European Training Groups. I am also the host of the European “Gathering of the Pack” in Switzerland.
